Tentulia Jame Masjid Satkhira

Tetulia Jame Masjid, a unique example of 18th century Muslim architecture, is located in Tetulia village, 3 km from Tala Upazila Sadar of Satkhira district. The mosque is locally known as Miyar Masjid or Tentulia Jame Masjid, but the original name of the mosque is Tentulia Khan Bahadur Kazi Salamatullah Jame Masjid. From the inscription found on the mosque, it is known that Zamindar Salamatullah Khan built this mosque in 1270 BENGAL AD based on the design of 'Sindur Patti' Mosque in Calcutta.

There are 7 doors 9 feet high and 4 feet wide to enter the mosque. Built on 12 pillars at Chun Surki and Gathuni, the mosque has 6 domes and 20 towering minarets on its roof. More than 500 Muslims can pray together inside and outside Tentulia Jama Masjid. There is another historic mosque called Tentulia Shahi Mosque, just 100 yards away from the historic Tentulia Jame Mosque, which is about one and a half hundred years old. Since 1987, Bangladesh Directorate of Archeology has been maintaining the Tentulia Jame Masjid.

There are various AC/Non-AC bus services from Gabtali, Nabinagar, Shyamoli, Kalyanpur and Savar to Satkhira via Padma Bridge in the capital Dhaka. Notable among them are SP Golden Line, AK Travels, Greenline, Mamun Enterprises, Eagle, Sohag Paribahan, Saudia, Satkhira Express and Shyamoli Paribahan. Ticket price per person of the bus is 650 to 1300 taka.

The distance of Tentulia Jame Masjid from Satkhira district town is about 25 km. Tentulia Shahi Masjid can be easily reached by local transport like bus, rickshaw, van along Tala-Paikgacha road.

There are several good residential hotels in Satkhira including Hotel Sangram, Hotel Samrat, Hotel Shimant, Mozaffar Garden, Hotel Mohana and Hotel Uttara.

Satkhira is famous for kul, mango, wool, fish and pure honey of Sundarbans. Apart from this, you can taste the Sandesh of Satkhira Ghosh Dairy.

Satkhira has several places to visit. Take your time to visit the Sundarbans, Chaikghariya Jora Shiv Mandir, Montu Mier Bagan Bari, Nalta Sharif, Debhata Banbibir Banyan Tree, Mandarbaria Beach and Jahazmari.
