Jeshoreshwari Kali Mondir Satkhira

Shaktipeeth Shri Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple located in Ishwaripur village of Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district is a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus. The word Jashoreshwari means Goddess of Jashore. In the Satya Yuga, after the sacrifice of Sati Mata, Mahadeva took the dead body on his shoulder and started the deluge dance. Lord Vishnu cuts the body of Sati with his Sudarshan Chakra Katrik. In this, Sati Mata's body parts were spread in different parts of the Indian subcontinent. The places where Sati Mata's body fell are known as Shaktipeeths. Jashoreswari Kali Mandir is one such Shaktipeeth.

It is believed that a Brahmin named Anari built the Jashoreswari Kali Temple and the 100 doors of the Shaktipeeth. However, there is no definite information about the construction period of the temple. Later Lakshmana Sen and Maharaja Pratapaditya renovated the Jashoreswari Kali temple. In the 13th century, Lakshmana Sen, along with the renovation of the temple, built a large manchamandapa near the main temple called the Natmandir, and Maharaja Pratapaditya built the Kali temple.

Various AC/Non-AC buses depart from Dhaka's Gabtali, Nabinagar, Shyamoli, Kalyanpur and Savar via Padma Bridge for Satkhira. Buses to Satkhira include SP Golden Line, AK Travels, Green Line, Mamun Enterprises, Eagle Paribahan, Sohag Paribahan, Saudia Paribahan, Satkhira Express and Shyamoli Paribahan. Ticket price per person varies from Tk 650 to Tk 1300 depending on the quality of the bus. You can easily visit Jashoreswari Kali temple by local transport from Satkhira to Shyamnagar upazila.

Among the various residential hotels located in Satkhira are Hotel Sangram, Hotel Samrat, Hotel Shimant, Mozaffar Garden, Hotel Mohana and Hotel Uttara.

Satkhira district is famous for mangoes, kul, wal, fish and pure honey of Sundarbans. Apart from this, you can taste the Sandesh of Satkhira Ghosh Dairy.
