Nalta Sharif Satkhira

Nalta Sharif is located in Nalta village of Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district. Famous educationist, educational reformer and philanthropist Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah was born in Nalta village in December 1873. His contribution to the establishment of Dhaka University in 1921 is undeniable and he was also respected as an auliya. After the death of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah on February 9, 1965, he was buried in Nalta. Later, Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Tomb Complex or Nalta Sharif was built around his burial place.

Nalta Sharif has a mosque, shrine, library, office, guest house, health center, pond and a beautiful mausoleum on about 40 bighas of land. 3 stairways have been constructed on three sides of the mausoleum. The main staircase is relatively wide and attractive. The mausoleum has a total of 9 spectacular domes including a central dome. Annual Ors Mahfil is held at Nalta Sharif on 8th, 9th and 10th of February every year to mark the death anniversary of Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah. A fair is organized in Nalta on the occasion of Ors. Thousands of Nalta Sharif fans flocked from all over the country to watch the fair and join the procession. Besides, the world's 2nd largest Iftar Mahfil is being organized in Nalta Sharif every Ramadan since 1950.

Nalta Sharif is open to visitors throughout the year. However, the museum located at Nalta Sharif is open from morning to evening except on weekends.

There are AC and non-AC buses from Gabtali, Nabinagar, Shyamoli, Kalyanpur and Savar to Satkhira via Padma Bridge in Dhaka. Among them are SP Golden Line, AK Travels, Green Line, Mamun Enterprises, Eagle Transport, Sohag Transport, Saudia Transport, Satkhira Express and Shyamoli Transport. For bus ticket 650 to 1300 taka depending on the bus standard.

You can go to Nalta Sharif by any vehicle going from Satkhira to Kaliganj, but the location of Nalta Sharif is near the Nalta bus stand on the Satkhira-Kaliganj road, so it is better to go by bus. The location of Nalta Sharif is 8 km away from Kaliganj Upazila Sadar.

Satkhira has several residential hotels for overnight stay, among them Hotel Sangram, Hotel Samrat, Hotel Shimant, Mozaffar Garden, Hotel Mohana and Hotel Uttara will provide good service.

Satkhira district is famous for kul, mango, ole, fish and pure honey of Sundarbans. Besides, you can try the sandesh of Satkhira Ghosh Dairy, the taste of the sandesh will stay in your mouth for a long time.

Apart from Nalta Sharif, Satkhira has several beautiful places to visit. You can take your time to visit the Sundarbans, Jora Shiv Mandir, Bagan Bari of Montu Mia, Banbibi's Banyan Tree of Debhata, Mandarbaria Beach, Sonabaria Mathbari Temple and Jahazmari.
