The 600-year-old Mohisar Digumbori Dighi located in Vedarganj Upazila of Shariatpur district is known as a pilgrimage site for Hindus. Raja Chand Roy, a zamindar of Bikrampur Pargana, one of the independent 12 Bhuiyans of the Mughal period, dug this lake on 10 acres of land at the request of the monks of Digambari. Around the Digambari Dighi in Mahiser are immortal witnesses of history and numerous structures including Digambari Sannyasi House, Mela Chatwar, Jora Pond, Mansa Mandir, Kali Mandir Chatwar and Lakshmi Temple. During the re-excavation of the lake in 1982, several rare archaeological artifacts were found, including a 42 kg heavy statue.
There are several myths and legends about Digambari Dighi in Mahiser. Their belief is that taking a bath in the waters of the Mahisa lake will get rid of sins and diseases. And so many devotees from far and wide come to bathe in this lake with various vows. For many years, the pujas of the Hindu community have been organized on the banks of this lake on Saturdays and Tuesdays of the week. Besides, the Baisakhi fair and puja of Mysore organized on Pahela Baisakh is a special attraction for the visitors. Then thousands of devotees and visitors from home and abroad gathered in this fair. In winter, the arrival of numerous guest birds can be observed on the banks of Dighi. At present, Digambari Dighi and various structures around it have been developed into one of the tourist areas.
