Mir Musharraf Hossain, the author of Bishad Sindhu, a popular epic novel of Bengali literature, was born on November 13, 1847 in his maternal uncle's house at Lahinipara village in Kushtia. Mir Musharraf Hossain's father Mir Moazzbem Hossain lived in Padmadi village of Nawabpur union of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district. It is known that Syed Sadullah, the ancestor of Mir Musharraf Hossain, first came from Baghdad to Delhi and then settled in Sakra village of Faridpur district.
Starting from his home, Mir Musharraf Hossain spent his educational life in different schools of Kushtia, Faridpur and Krishnanagar. Mir Musharraf Hossain wrote a significant number of books in his life from his ancestral residence. His total number of books is about 37. He has written various timeless prose, poems, essays, dramas and novels one by one in pure Bengali. At that time he got the status of the best dramatist for the play 'Zamidar Darpan'.
Mir Musharraf Hossain's best book 'Bishad Sindhu' is an invaluable asset of Bengali literature. In the Muslim society of Bengal, this literature of his is read with the same importance as the scriptures. Mir Musharraf Hossain breathed his last on December 19, 1911 at his home in Padmadi. He was buried next to his wife Kulsum's tomb.
The foundation stone of Mir Musharraf Hossain Memorial Center was laid in 2001 to preserve the memory of Mir Musharraf Hossain. The Mir Mosharraf Hossain Memorial Museum, built at a cost of two and a half million takas on an area of about two acres, was opened for visitors in 2005. Mir Musharraf Hossain Memorial Center has museum, 100 seater seminar room, office, library, guest room, reception room, dining room, kitchen and toilet room. Nowadays, many visitors come to visit this memorial.
Timings: Mir Musharraf Hussain Memorial is closed for visitors on all public holidays including Fridays and Saturdays.
