Sunil Gangopadhyay Fathers House

Sunil Gangopadhyay Father's House is located in East Maijpara Village of Kalkini Upazila of Madaripur District. This Bengali literary figure who appeared in the latter half of the 20th century was known as a poet, short story writer, editor, journalist and columnist. On the author's birth anniversary, the Sunil Mela is organized at his ancestral home with cultural programs like hill dance, lalan and country songs along with a book fair organized by Dui Bengal.

Sunil Gangopadhyay was born on September 7, 1934 at his maternal uncle's house in Amgram, Rajair, Madaripur. As a teenager, he migrated to the other side of Bengal. He passed MA from Calcutta University. Then his literary career started by writing prose. He came to his wife Madaripur last on November 17, 2010. He died on October 23, 2012 in Kolkata. Currently, in order to protect the memory of Sunil Gangopadhyay, initiatives have been taken to preserve various things used by the poet in his ancestral home and to build a laboratory.

There are various bus services to Madaripur from Gabtali and Keraniganj in Dhaka. From Gabtali you can go to Madaripur by Sarbik, Chandra or Sohail Paribahan bus. Non-AC bus fare will cost Tk 400-500. Again from Gabtali take a bus bound for Barisal to Mustafapur and from there you can take another bus or auto rickshaw to Madaripur Sadar. By sea, one can go to Madaripur by MV Tarika or Dwipraj launch from Dhaka's Sadarghat. From Madaripur district headquarter you can reach Kalkini upazila by bus or CNG and go to Sunil Gangopadhyay's house by local vehicles.

There is no accommodation in Kalkini upazila. Madaripur city has residential hotels like Hotel Mathrubhumi, Sumon Hotel, Hotel Palash, Saikat Hotel, Hotel Sarbik International and Hotel Zahid etc.

Kalkini upazila has Bengali food hotels of average quality.
