Introduction to Shimul Bagan

Shimul Bagan is located in Manigaon village near Jadukata river in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj district. There are about 3,000 shimul trees in this shimul garden built over an area of ​​about 100 bighas. Local businessman Zainal Abedin started this garden around 2003. According to his name this place is called Zainal Abedin Shimul Bagan.
In the springtime, when looking at the Shimul garden, one can see the red fire on the branches of the trees. The beauty of the blood red petals of the Shimul flower colors the minds of all the people who come here. On the one hand, the pure beauty of Meghalaya's mountain range, on the other hand, the red flowers of the Shimul garden on the banks of the magical river are enough to leave a feeling of well-being. Walking on the surrounding flowers will make you feel like you are walking on a heavenly red carpet.

When will you go to Shimul Bagan?

You can visit Shimul Garden at any time of the year. However, if you want to see the red shimul flower, you must go to the beginning of the month of Falgun. If you go between February 10th and 28th, you can enjoy the amazing beauty in the best way.
And if you go in monsoon, you will see a green mushroom garden even if there are no flowers. Then the tanguar haor is full of water. Then when you go to Shimul Bagan, you can visit Tangua Haor by boat.

how to go

If you want to go to Shimul Bagan, you have to come to Sunamganj Sadar first. Buses of Ena, Hanif and Shyamoli Paribahan ply regularly on Sunamganj route from Mohakhali, Gabtali, Saidebad and Fakirapool in Dhaka. These non-AC buses will cost 800 to 850 taka. It will take about 6 hours to go to Sunamganj by bus.
In dry season, Shimul Bagan can be reached from Sunamganj via Laudergarh or Tahirpur. Either way, it will take about 2 hours. If you reserve a car for the whole day, you can visit Shimul Bagan and other nearby places. 2 people can go on a motorcycle, the rent for the whole day will be Tk 1000-1500 and for CNG Tk 1700-2200. If you want to reduce the cost, you can go to Laudergarh by bike or CNG from Sunamganj and cross the river by boat to Shimul Bagan. And besides seeing Tangua Haor during monsoon , all other places including Shimul garden can be visited by boat.
Shimul Bagan can also be reached from Netrakona. But in dry season motorbike is the only way. Panchgaon Bazar via Kalmakanda from Netrakona. From there Mahishkhola to Tekerghat, Tekerghat to Shimul Bagan. During the rainy season, you can go to Tanguar Haor by boat from Mohanganj via Dharmapasha. In addition to visiting Haor, you can also visit Shimul Bagan.

Al Madia Hotel in Badaghat Bazar near Shimul Bagan will be better. Apart from that, you will find different quality residential hotels in Sunamganj city between 800 taka and 3000 taka.

There are some temporary food stalls around Shimul Bagan, you can eat there if needed. Besides, there are some fair quality country food hotels at Barik Tila, Laudergarh Bazar, Barachhara Bazar and Badaghat Bazar. Don't expect very good food. However, the taste of local fresh vegetables, various types of fish, bharta bhaji will not be too bad.
