Tanguar Haor

Tanguar Haor (Tanguar Haor) is the second largest freshwater wetland in the country extending to about 100 square kilometers in Sunamganj district. Athai water, wetlands, blue sky, mountains and eye-catching green have decorated this haor in a unique way. The total area of ​​Tanguar Haor is 6912 acres. However, during the rainy season, the area of ​​this haor increases to about 20,000 acres. Tanguare Haor has a biodiversity of around 140 species of fish, 12 species of frogs and more than 150 species of reptiles. About 250 species of guest birds migrate here during winter.

The ranges of Meghalaya, India can be seen from Tangua Howar. About 30 small and big springs or springs from Meghalaya converge at Tanguar Haor. There is a watch tower in this haor, the water around it is so clear that the bottom of the haor can be seen from above. There are about 46 small and large island-like floating villages or island villages in Tangua Haor. The Government of Bangladesh declared Tanguar Haor as an Ecologically Critical Area (ECA) in 1999. And in 2000, Tanguare Haor was placed in the list of Ramsar sites.

Monsoon season is the best time to visit Tangua Haor. Generally, June to September is the best time to visit Howrah. At other times of the year its water is usually very low. But if you want to see the tanguar haor of a different environment and also the visiting birds, you have to go in winter.

Sylhet to Sunamganj: There are local and sitting buses to Sunamganj from Kumargaon bus stand in Sylhet. Sitting bus fare is Tk 100, it will take about two hours to go to Sunamganj. Or you can go to Sunamganj from the front of Shahjalal Mazar by a light car for 200 taka.

Sunamganj to Tangua : Tahirpur can be easily reached from Sunamganj by Laguna/CNG/Bike. Rent a boat according to size and capacity from Tahirpur boat wharf and depart from Tanguar Haor.

But you have to go to Laguna/CNG/Bike Yog to Solemanpur as the water decreases in winter. You can rent a boat from there.

Currently, various types of houseboats, semi-houseboats or traditional boats are available to explore Tangua and stay overnight if necessary. Different quality houseboat fares vary according to the package. Usually the package including one night stay, all meals and tangua hour to explore all the nearby spots ranges from Tk 6,000-10,000 per person for premium boats. Semi houseboat packages of good quality range from Tk 4,500-6,000. Besides, if you reserve the whole houseboat, it will be from Tk 40,000 to Tk 80,000 depending on the quality and capacity. Bargain to rent a boat. Boat rental mainly depends on 3 factors. Boat capacity, boat facilities, what to visit, stay overnight or day trip and season. Generally small boats can be rented for Tk 2500 to Tk 3000, medium boats Tk 3500 to Tk 4500 and big boats Tk 5000 to Tk 10,000 for whole day. If you want to stay on the boat for one night, the amount of money will increase. If you pay the expenses to the boatman for cooking, he will take the cook or arrange the cooking himself. Conveniently, if you go to Sunamganj by night bus on any day, you will reach there by 7 am. It will take about 1 hour to go to Tahirpur after having breakfast in Sunamganj and renting CNG. Make necessary purchases before boarding the boat from the wharf or the pre-arranged boat. Try to start the boat ride between 9 am and 10 am. Take a straight boat to the watch tower area.

Meanwhile, besides the beauty of the lagoon, you will see small children going around with small boats. After watching the watch tower, you can go to the middle of Haor. Start the journey to Tekerghat soon after noon after seeing the water bodies on the horizon. The more the boat moves in this direction, the closer the mountains will come, you will love it.

If you have not bathed in the watch tower, you can come and get wet in the Niladri lake of Tekerghat . And here you can tie the boat and spend the night in the boat. Wake up early to see Shimul Bagan, Magical River and Barikatila. If there is enough water in the river during monsoon, you can go by boat and you can go everywhere by boat. If you can't go by boat during dry season, you can go to these places by motorbike.

After seeing Shimul garden, magical river and Barikatila, return to Tekerghat in the afternoon and visit Haor for some time and come to Tahirpur before evening.
