Historic Shailkupa zamindar house is located in Abaipur village of Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah district. Bengal In the middle of the 12th century, Ramsundar Shikdar, a zamindar of Jessore district in undivided India, established Shailkupa zamindar bari on an area of about 400 bighas. The two-storied zamindar house had around 350 rooms with a revolving building. Later Ramachandra established his zamindari by setting up a large market and theater hall with a sub-registrar's office here, which came to be known as Shikdar Street.
A number of archeological artefacts including gramophone, stone hookah, sword, ancient Srimad Bhagavatam, musical instrument Esraj, two temples of sal wood and parts of Banarasi sari with silver lace designs have been preserved under the care of the descendants of Zamindar Ramsundar. In the course of time, the zamindari of Shikdar Street disappeared, but the ancient house still stands today as a historical witness of the zamindari system. At present, Shailkupa zamindar houses one part of the local union land office and another part of the zamindar's descendants.
