Barobazar, located at a distance of about 26 km from Jhenaidah district town, is an important archaeological site of Bangladesh. According to history, the 700-year-old Barobazar city of 10 square miles was famous for its twelve separate markets at that time. The villages of Barobazar city are - Pirojpur, Khoshalpur, Sadekpur, Bandurgacha, Satgachia, Daulatpur, Muradgarh, Enayetpur, Molladanga, Rahmatpur and Badedihi.
In 1993, the archeology department excavated a 3 square kilometer area adjacent to the Barobazar railway line and found about 15 different archaeological sites including mosques, burial grounds, port and secular buildings. Among the monuments found are Satgachia Mosque, Namazgah Cemetery, Ghoper Dhipi Cemetery, Jorbangla Mosque, Galakata Mosque, Jahaghata, Manohar Mosque, Gogar Mosque, Dumdum Archaeological Site, Shukur Mallik Mosque, Pir Pukur Mosque, Pathagar Mosque, Badedihi Cemetery, Khader Dighi Cemetery and Nungola. The mosque And the cultural objects include inscriptions, decorated bricks, pottery, terracotta plaques, beads, broken pieces of pottery etc.
Next to these signs, the location of the huge lake is especially noticeable. And many mosques in Bagerhat district have many similarities with the mosques here. Bangladesh Archeology Department named the area of recovered artefacts as 'Shahar Mohammadabad'. According to the archeology department, the artifacts found date back to the 15th century. However, seeing the mention of 800 Hijri in the inscription found in Jorbangla Mosque, the artifacts are considered to be 700 years old.
