S M Sultan Memorial Gallery Narail

SM Sultan Complex has been constructed to preserve the memory of the world famous painter SM Sultan in Machimdia village, 12 km from Narail district headquarters. Built in 2003 in the beautiful natural environment of Chitra River, Sultan Complex spread over an area of ​​about 27 acres is surrounded by various green trees of rare species. The tomb of SM Sultan lies in the green nature of this complex with the chirping of countless birds. The two-storied modern photo gallery at Sultan Complex houses the artist's paintings and used objects. About 38 feet long, the art gallery has a total of 23 paintings including the development of civilization, paddy threshing, tillage, marigold cultivation. SM Sultan built a “children's heaven” on the river called Bajra to teach children to draw. Presently children are taught drawing at the Shishusvarg located in the area adjacent to the complex.

Around this complex built in the house of painter SM Sultan, every year on 10th August on the occasion of the artist's birthday, a boating competition and a 7-day long Sultan Mela are organized. Every day many visitors come from far and wide to see the rare paintings of this eminent painter.

Sultan Complex is open daily from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm except public holidays. SM Sultan Memorial Museum is closed every Sunday of the week. Entry fee for general visitors is Tk 10 (per person), student entry fee is Tk 5 (per person).

Narail district can be reached by bus from Dhaka via Padma bridge. From Dhaka's Gabtali, Sayedabad, Nabinagar and Mohakhali bus terminals to Narail by Desh Travels, Saint Martin Paribahan, Tungipara Express, Sohag Paribahan, Eagle Paribahan, Hanif Enterprise and AK Travels, the fare will be Tk 550-1200 per person. After reaching the town of Narail district, you can go to Banda Ghat by local vehicles. After reaching Narail district town you can go to Sultan complex by rickshaw, easybike or CNG.
