Introduction to Ronobijoypur Masjid Bagerhat

About 5 km west of Bagerhat district is Ronobijoypur Masjid with a dome in Ranobijoypur village. This mosque is the largest one dome mosque in Bangladesh and is also known as Dariya Khan Mosque to locals. Just one and a half kilometers away from the sixty-domed mosque is the location of the Ranbijaipur mosque on the east side. It is believed that during the reign of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali in 1459 Dariya Khan, a companion of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali, built Ranbijaipur Mosque.
Ranbijaipur Mosque with thick brick walls has an area of 56 square feet on the outside and 36 square feet on the inside and the wall of the mosque is about 10 feet wide. There are 3 mihrabs on the western side of the mosque and 3 doors each on the walls on the other three sides. Among the 3 arches with floral designs, the main arch in the middle is relatively large. The curved cornice of the mosque has 4 round minarets built in Khan Jahani architecture at the four corners. The only dome of Ranbijaipur Mosque is also quite interesting to see. Besides, the terracotta decoration of the mosque walls is particularly noteworthy. In 1961, the Directorate of Archeology of Bangladesh declared the Ranbijoypur Mosque as a protected antiquities.
