Bibi Beganir Masjid Bibi Begni Mosque

Bibi Begni Mosque is an archeological structure located on the bank of Ghora Dighi, 800 meters west of Shat Gambooz Mosque in Bagerhat Sadar Upazila . It is believed that the mosque was built during the reign of Khan Jahan Ali in the fifteenth century. The precise naming of the mosque is not known, but many believe that Bibi Begni was probably a close follower of Khan Jahan (RA) or the wife of Khan-e-Jahan. And the mosque was named after him. The architecture of Bibi Begni Mosque is similar to that of Singair Mosque in Bagerhat.

The square mosque has four round minarets at the four corners and a large dome on top. Bibi Begni Masjid including minaret is 16.15 meters outside length and 10.058 meters inside length and the walls are 3.048 meters thick. The mosque has three arched doorways on the east side and one each on the north and south walls. Opposite the doorways are three ornate arches along the west wall. Among them, the central mehrab decorated with burnt earth is larger than the other mehrabs.

You can go to Bagerhat in Khulna by bus and train from Dhaka. From Dhaka's Syedabad, Gabtali, Mirpur 2 bus terminals, Bagerhat can be reached by Shakura, Tourist, Hanif, Sohag, Falguni, Dola and Eagle buses. And from Kamalapur railway station you can go to Bagerhat via Khulna by inter-city Kapotaksh Express, Chitra, Rupsa or Sundarban Express trains. You can reach Bibi Begni Masjid near Sixty Domes by rickshaw from Bagerhat.
