Rabindranath Tagore Kuthibari

Rabindranath Tagore's Shilaidaha Kuthibari is the historic house of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore located in Khoreshadpur village of Shilaidah Union of Kushtia Kumarkhali Upazila. Rabindranath Tagore's kuthibari is only 15 km away from Kushtia city. The main building of Rabindra Kuthibari with an area of ​​about 33 bighas has been built on two and a half bighas of land. Rabindranath Tagore's kuthibari with 3 floors has a total of 18 rooms. The poet's writing room was on the third floor of the building. And the poet used to enjoy the sunrise, sunset and Jyotsna from the roof of this cottage.

In 1807 Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather Prince Dwarkanath Tagore got the zamindari of this region. Later, from 1889 to 1901, Rabindranath Tagore used to come here at irregular intervals and during that time he managed the zamindari work. At that time, from this cottage, he wrote Sonar Tari, Chitra, Chaitali and started translating Gitanjali poetry into English.

Since 1958 Shilaidah Rabindranath's Kuthibari has been under the supervision of the Directorate of Archaeology. Currently it is being used as Shilaidah Rabindra Kuthibari Museum. And in this museum there are pictures of poet Rabindranath Tagore of different ages, useful things like two speedboats named Chanchala and Chapla, 8 Behara palanquins, paltuns, tea tables, wooden chairs, sofasets, couches and various paintings by the poet.

Rabindranath Tagore's Kuthibari Museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm during summer. And it is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm during winter. However, the museum is temporarily closed from 1 pm to 1:30 pm every day. Rabindranath Tagore's Kuthibari Museum is closed for full day every Sunday and open from 2 pm on Monday.

Rabindranath Tagore's Kuthibari Museum entry ticket price is 15 rupees per person and 5 rupees for secondary level students. The ticket price is Tk 50 for visitors from SAARC countries and Tk 100 for all other foreign tourists.

From Kushtia , you can easily go to Shilaidah Rabindra Kuthibari by auto rickshaw, CNG, easy bike or other transport.

If you want to go from Dhaka to Kushtia, you can go by bus or train. By bus, from Kalyanpur bus stand, take New SB Super Deluxe, Shyamoli, Hanif bus and get down at Majampur Gate in Kushtia. From there you can take any rickshaw or auto rickshaw to go to Lalon shrine. Bus fare non AC 600-700 taka, AC 1000-1200 taka.

If you want to go by train, you can go by Sundarban Express, Madhumati Express and Benapole Express trains. Sundarban Express leaves at 8:15 AM, Madhumati Express at 3 PM and Benapole Express at 11:45 PM from Kamalapur Railway Station. The price of the ticket is Tk 410 to Tk 943 depending on the seat of the train. By train you have to get down at Kushtia Court station. From Kushtia, you can easily go to Shilaidah Rabindra Kuthibari by auto rickshaw or CNG.

Kushtia city has several residential hotels of fair quality. You can choose any hotel of your choice. A little better quality includes Hotel River View, Hotel Noor International. Besides, there are several mid-range hotels in Mazampur and NS Road.

There are several good quality hotel restaurants for dining. You can eat at Hotel Shafi in Court Station area. Besides, you can eat at Jahangir Hotel, Shilpi Hotel, food and drink hotels. And Kushtia's famous sesame khwaja and kulfi malai must be eaten.
