Lalon Shahs Mazar

Mausoleum of Lalon Shah is located in Kumarkhali Upazila of Kushtia District. Lalon Shah used to teach ethics and spirituality to his disciples in Cheuriya of Kumarkhali upazila. He used to organize a festival in the Akhara every winter. Where thousands of disciples would gather and there would be music and discussions. Lalon Shah was buried at this place after his death. After his death, a Milon Kshetra or Akhara was built at his tomb. This tomb is surrounded by rows of graves of his disciples. Fakir Lalon Shah's disciples and countless baulkul from home and abroad gather in this arena on special dates and enjoy the festival.

Lalon Mela is held twice every year. Once during the Dol Purnima festival and another time on the 1st of Bangla Kartik month, a huge Lalan fair is held at Lalan Akhara. His disciples came from all over the country in Lalan Mela. Baul song festival goes on all night. The shrine is decorated with colors on this occasion. Lighting, archways are erected and huge canopies are hung. Along with that, the village fair is organized. On the occasion of Lalan Mela, many visitors from the country and abroad arrive.

If you want to go from Dhaka, you can go either by bus or train. If you go by bus, you have to take New SB Super Delux, Shyamoli, Hanif bus from Kalyanpur bus stand and get down at Mazampur Gate in Kushtia via Padma Setu. From there you can take any rickshaw or autorickshaw to Lalon Mazar. Bus fare non AC 600-700 taka, AC 1000-1200 taka.

If you want to go by train, you can go by Sundarban Express, Chitra and Benapole Express. Sundarban Express leaves at 8:15 AM, Madhumati Express at 3 PM and Benapole Express at 11:45 PM from Kamalapur Railway Station. The price of the ticket is Tk 410 to Tk 943 depending on the seat of the train. By train you have to get down at Kushtia Court station. Any rickshaw or auto from Kushtia city will take you to Lalon shrine.

Besides, you can easily go to Lalon Shah's shrine from any part of Kushtia city. Rent a rickshaw or easy bike from anywhere in the city for Tk 20-35.

Apart from seeing the Lalan Akhara, you can visit several places of interest in the vicinity. Notable among them are; Rabindranath's Kuthi Bari , Mir Mosharraf Hussain's Bastuvita, Renwick's Dam on the Garai River, Tegar Lodge. You can rent a rickshaw or an easy bike for sightseeing.

Kushtia city has several residential hotels of fair quality. You can choose any hotel of your choice. A little better quality includes Hotel River View, Hotel Noor International. Besides, there are several mid-range hotels in Mazampur and NS Road.

There are several good quality hotel restaurants for dining. You can eat at Hotel Shafi in Court Station area. Besides, you can eat at Jahangir Hotel, Shilpi Hotel, food and drink hotels. And Kushtia's famous sesame khwaja and kulfi malai must be eaten.
