Introduction to Polghata Bridge Munshiganj

A part of Srivikrampur metropolis, the glorious place of ancient Bengal, Munshiganj district is a rich region full of history and tradition. Scattered throughout the district are numerous ancient monuments bearing witness to various glorious legends. Among them, Polghata Bridge of the Mughal era, made of bricks and mortar, located in Panam Polghata village of Rampal Union of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila is a unique archetype. This bridge, built at a distance of 6 km from the district town of Munshiganj, connects Tongibari upazila with the district headquarters.
It is also known as Mirkadim Bridge to the locals because it is built on the Mir Kadim canal, the boundary moat of Vikrampur metropolis. 52.42 m long cylindrical/semi-circular Polghata Bridge has 3 berths under the arch for navigation. The waterways on both sides are relatively small compared to the space in between. The brick pool at Polghata is currently under the supervision of the Directorate of Archeology, Government of Bangladesh.

Munshiganj district is only 26 kilometers from the capital Dhaka. Various transport buses are available from Gulistan in Dhaka to Munshiganj. You can go to Polghata Bridge by autorickshaw/CNG from Munshiganj district headquarters.
