The house of Michael Madhusudan Dutt in Sagardani village of Jessore district was named Modhupolli by building the Zilla Parishad office bungalow, Madhusudan museum, library and Sagardani tourist center. Michael Madhusudan Dutt was born on January 25, 1824 in the village of Sagardani. Although Michael Madhusudan Dutt's great-grandfather Ram Kishore Dutt lived in Gopalpur village of Khulna district. Later, Michael Madhusudan Dutt's grandfather Ramnidhi Dutt shifted to Sagardandi village of Jessore and bought the zamindari and established the Devalaya.
Adjacent to Michael Madhusudan Dutta's house (Michael Madhusudan Dutta Bari) is a boat wharf and almond trees on the banks of the Kapotaksha river. This ghat is called the poet's farewell ghat. It is said that when the poet returned home after his conversion in 1862, the family returned the poet. Then the poet pitched his tent under the almond tree of this ghat and stayed for 14 days and left for Calcutta.
On October 26, 1968, the then Department of Archeology declared Madhusudan Dutt's two-storied house as an ancient monument and renovated it for its magnificent architectural style. In 1996, the house took on its current form with the construction and renovation of boundary walls, entrance gates, a stage, reception facilities.
Madhupalli Timings : Michael Madhusudan Dutta Memorial House is open for visitors daily from 10 am to 6 pm from April to September and from 9 am to 5 pm from October to March. Madhupalli is completely closed every Sunday and all public holidays.
Entry Ticket Price : Any domestic tourist has to collect an entry ticket for 10 rupees to enter Madhupally. And foreign tourists have to spend 100 rupees to enter. In Madhupally, you have to pay Tk 100 for buses, Tk 50 for microbuses and jeeps and Tk 10 for motorbikes.
