Lakma Palace Joypurhat

Lakma Palace / Lakma Rajbari is a historical archeological monument located in West Karia village of Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat district on the Indian border. Jainik Chowdhury Hadi Mamun, the great-grandfather of Lakma Chowdhury, built this palace approximately 300 years ago. According to many, Raja Laxmansen is the builder of this house. Apart from the English U-shaped two-storied main building of the Lakma Rajbari, the other two buildings were used as Ghorasal and the other as Hatisal. On the eastern side of the palace are the servants' quarters and the graveyard.

Currently, Lakma Chowdhury Parnati along with heirs and permanent residents of Rajbari are looking after this historic Rajbari through a society of 42 people. The remaining 15 bighas of Lakma Rajbari are used for the production of various crops as well as flower gardens and fruit cultivation.

The distance from Jaipurhat district headquarters to Lakma Rajbari is only 37 km. From Gabtali, Mohakhali, Abdullahpur, Shyamoli or Kalyanpur in Dhaka, buses from Shah Fateh Ali Transport, St Martin Travels, Shyamoli Transport NR, SR Travels and Hanif etc. travel to Joypurhat. AC, non-AC buses fare from Tk 550 to Tk 1400. Besides, you can go to Joypurhat from Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station in Dhaka by Ekta, Chilahati, Express, Kurigram and Panchagarh Express. Train fare will be Tk 465-1599 per seat. You can visit Lakma Rajbari located in Paschim Kariya village of Panchbibi Upazila by local transport from Joypurhat district city.
