Introduction to Kobi Sukanta Bhattacharyas House

Kobi Sukanta Bhattacharya's ancestral house is located in Unshia village of Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj district. The revolutionary young poet Sukanta Bhattacharya possessed the progressive spirit of Bengali literature. Poet Sukanth was born on August 15, 1926 in Mahim Haldar Street, Kolkata. His father Nibaran Bhattacharya worked in the postal department of Madaripur. In 1946, poet Sukanta Bhattacharya's father left his job and moved to Calcutta. This house became empty. Later, Deven Bhattacharya, the last male of the family, tried to keep the house left by Sukanta's paternal and father for a few days, but it fell into the hands of illegal occupants. At one point, the responsibility of preserving the house was taken locally on the instructions of the Gopalganj District Commissioner. In 2010, Kavi Sukanta Public Library cum Auditorium was constructed by renovating the ancestral house of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya, a tradition of nearly 500 years.
Known as a symbol of the poet's glory and tradition, the ancestral house has a special monument of poet Sukanta and various beautiful flowers. The library has various books written by the poet on various shelves, seating for readers and portraits of the poet painted in water colors. The ancestral home and library of poet Sukanta Bhattacharya has become one of the most attractive tourist spots for literature lovers.
