Hakaluki Haor

Hakaluki Haor ( Hakaluki Haor ) is one of the largest freshwater wetlands in Bangladesh, spread over 5 upazilas of Sylhet and Moulvibazar . Hakaluki haor consists of about 238 banks and 10 rivers and the area of ​​this haor is about 20,000 hectares during the rainy season. Famous for its fish, Hakaluki Haore becomes abuzz with the arrival of visiting birds in the winter. Also, about 100 species of local birds can be seen here. Travelers flock to Hakaluki Haor because of the Haor's vast land, the bill-dependent lifestyle and the call of visiting birds.

November to February is the ideal time to visit Hakaluki Hao to see visiting birds. At this time, the surroundings of Haor are buzzing with the noise of guest birds. And during the rainy season, Haor takes the form of a sea. So if you want to enjoy Haor during the rainy season, you should come in June-August.

To go from Dhaka to Hakaluki Haor you have to first come to Kulaura in Moulvibazar district. One can go directly to Howar by hiring an autorickshaw or a rickshaw from Kulaura. Autorickshaw fare from Kulaura to Hakaluki Hawar is 100 to 150 taka and rickshaw fare is 60 taka to 100 taka.

Dhaka to Kulaura : You can reach Kulaura by any bus from Dhaka to Sylhet. Sylhet buses depart from Fakirapool, Gabtali, Syedabad, Mohakhali and Abdullahpur bus terminals in Dhaka. Green Line, Saudia, S Alam, Shyamli and Ena Paribahan operate AC buses, fares to Kulaura are usually between Tk 750 to Tk 900. Also, AC/Non-AC buses of Shyamoli, Hanif, Unique, Ena Paribahan will be available from Dhaka to Sylhet at a fare of Tk 700 to Tk 1500 per person.

From Dhaka to Kulaura by train, you can choose Upaban, Jayantika, Parabat or Kalni Express train from Kamalapur or Biman Port railway station as your travel companion. The train fare per person is Tk 320 to Tk 731 depending on the class.

Traveling to Sylhet from Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station at night, board the Upaban Express and get down at Maizgao station just before Sylhet. You have to walk only 1 km from Maizgao to Fenchuganj Bazar. If you want, you can come to Fenchuganj market by autorickshaw. After having a fresh breakfast at Al Mumin Restaurant in Fenchuganj market, you can come to the boat wharf and haggle (about 10 to 15 people). For three to four thousand taka per day, Kushiara can go around the Hakaluki Hawar and walk around to your heart's content.

2-4 people can easily stay overnight in the cottages of the bill tenants in Howre with the permission of the bill owner. But the moments of overnight camping in Beel area will give you a lifetime of happiness. Besides, you can spend the night in the neighboring upazila town of Baralekha. However, if you want to stay the night, you have to think about your own safety.

During the trip to Hakaluki Hao, if you talk to the boatman and do the necessary shopping, the boatman will cook and feed you. Besides, you can travel with light food such as biscuits, tea, bread, drinking water etc. while boarding the boat. If you can manage working people, you can have lunch with rice and fish broth with them for a small amount of money. Cow buffalo milk is available at a very low price in Howar.
