Gandhi Ashram Noakhali

Gandhi Ashram (Gandhi Ashram) is a historical monument of Mahatma Gandhi located near Jayag Bazar of Sonamuri Upazila, 25 km from Maijdi Court in Noakhali District. The Gandhi Ashram, established in the house of the late zamindar barrister Hemant Kumar Ghosh, has gained a nationwide reputation as a service organization in Noakhali.

The Gandhi Memorial Museum started its journey on October 2, 2000 in the main building of the Gandhi Ashram to bring Mahatma Gandhi's concept of non-violent social order to everyone. Gandhi's various rare photographs, books, paraphernalia and his varied career are enough to blow anyone's mind.

It is known from history, that the poisonous vapor of communalism in India spread to Noakhali at the end of 1946. On November 7, 1946, Mahatma Gandhi, the father of non-violent movement, stepped into Chaumuhani railway station in Noakhali as the ambassador of peace mission. On January 29, 1947, Mahatma Gandhi reached the village of Jayag on a tour to eliminate communal sentiments.

And on that day, Hemant Kumar Ghosh, the first barrister of Noakhali district, established the Ambika Kaliganga Charitable Trust and Gandhi Ashram with the purpose of propagating Gandhiji's ideals and preserving his memory. In 1975, the name of the trust was changed to Gandhi Ashram Trust.

Schedule: Gandhi Memorial Museum is open for all visitors from Monday to Saturday every week.

You can take a bus from Dhaka to Maizdi in Noakhali and from there you can take a local bus or CNG to Sonaimuri to reach the Gandhi Ashram located near Jayag Bazar. In the same way, you can take a train from Dhaka to Majdi railway station and hire a local bus or CNG to go to Gandhi Ashram.

From Dhaka to Maijdi in Noakhali by Bus From Dhaka Syedabad Bus Terminal, Ekushey Express, Moonline Enterprise, Himachal Express buses can go to Maijdi in Noakhali. Ekushey Paribahan bus leaves for Noakhali from Dhanmondi Jigatla counter at 10:20 PM. The non-AC and AC coach fares of these buses range from Tk 500 to Tk 550.

By train from Dhaka to Maijdi in Noakhali From Dhaka by train, get off at Maijdi station in Noakhali. An intercity train named Upkul Express departs for Noakhali from Kamalapur in Dhaka at 3:10 PM on 6 days of the week except Tuesday, it takes about 6 hours to reach Maijdi. The price of the train ticket is 315 Tk.

There are some medium quality residential hotels to stay in Noakhali. In addition to low-cost overnight stays, almost every residential hotel also offers meals.
