Noakhali Central Shohid Minar

Noakhali Central Shahid Minar, the witness of the language movement, is located 12 km from Noakhali district. In memory of the martyrs of the language movement on 21 February 1952, this Shaheed Minar was first erected in the premises of Kazirhat High School of Begumganj Upazila, but later the place was changed several times by the school authorities and now it is placed next to the District Judge Court.

The language movement of 1952 was the first spontaneous movement of the Bengali nation. Responding to this movement, people from all walks of life including students and teachers of Noakhali became united. Avoiding the attention of the Ayub ruling group, a group of progressive youths erected the district's first Shaheed Minar with clay in Kazirhat High School premises of Begumganj Upazila in memory of the martyrs of the language movement. On that day, the first Shaheed Minar Day was observed in Noakhali district by laying wreaths. Later, in 1963, the Shaheed Minar was erected permanently with bricks and cement, but after the War of Independence, the Shaheed Minar was relocated next to the District Judge's Court in 1972. In November 1992, the central Shaheed Minar was relocated to Shishu Park, adjacent to the District Judge's Court. Different types of cultural events and fairs are organized on special days in the open stage of this Shaheed Minar, which stands as a witness of history.

Noakhali can be reached by Himachal, Bilas, Ekushe, VIP and Shahi Express buses from Dhaka's Mirpur, Syedabad and Jigatla. Bus fare will be 500 to 1000 taka. You can go to Noakhali Shaheed Minar by rickshaw from any part of Noakhali district. Besides, if you want to come by train, you can come to Noakhali by taking Coastal Express from Dhaka's Kamalapur railway station. The train fare will be Tk 315-598 depending on the class.
