Noakhali Zilla Jame Mosque, one of the main mosques of the city, is located in the heart of Noakhali district. This unique beautiful structure is known as Majdi Bara Masjid to the locals. In 1841, a merchant named Imam Uddin established the Noakhali District Jame Masjid on his land in the old city of Noakhali. Along with the original city of Noakhali, this Jame Masjid also disappeared into the Meghna River. Later, Noakhali district Jame Masjid was rebuilt in 1950 with the financial support of various institutions and individuals when it was transferred to Maijdi, the main town of Noakhali district.
Built on an area of about 3.8 acres, the influence of Muslim and indigenous folk art can be seen in the architectural style of the District Jame Masjid. The mosque is 130 feet long and 80 feet wide. Inside the mosque, the beautiful chandeliers of the old mosque, the beautiful iron gates and numerous white stone pieces adorn the mosque with extraordinary artistry. The main building of the mosque has 3 beautiful domes and 9 minarets built in Islamic architecture. In addition, the small one-story building is decorated with flowers and leaves, and various verses of the Qur'an and admonitions are engraved.
Modern toilets, showers and ablution facilities have been constructed for the pilgrims coming to Noakhali District Jame Masjid. And there is a big pond on the west side of the mosque, district school on the south side, station road on the north side, district public health engineering and district road department buildings and public works department office on the east side. Currently, a philanthropic organization named Manab Kalyan Majlis is working with Noakhali District Jame Masjid to serve humanity.
