Introduction to Botanical Garden Mymensingh

The reputation of Bangladesh Agricultural University located in Mymensingh district is spreading across the country as a quiet place surrounded by greenery . The Botanical Garden was established in 1963 with the collection of rare species of plants covering an area of ​​about 25 acres of the university campus on the banks of the old Brahmaputra river. The first botanical garden of Bangladesh recognized by the international organization Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) has about 600 different species of plants including 1000 large, 1278 medium and 4467 small trees. Among them Gutgutia, African Tulip, Kaizelia, Swarna Ashoka, Kumphi, Nageshwarchapa, Budhanarikel, Patenzaba, Pahari Kash, Kaika, Sinduri, Bixa Chandul, Epicac etc. Kalahuja, Passion Fruit, Deris, Kalomegh, Mchridana, Neelkanth, Shatamuli, Swarpagandha, Tali, Honey Sakal, Bankala, Yellow Kanchan, Shambhukas, Ananta Lata, Khami, Kulanjan, Kanthakash, Sultanchapa, Kaika, Kansunalu, Letkantha, Patipata, Naxavomika, Nadajam, Tithijam, Azuli, Shall, Kharajura, Arusa, Panicalami, Khuskher, Elena, Chagalladi ) , Bamboos, Rondeletia, Tabebuia, Doombia, Banjari, Jayatri, Jaipal, Nagnath, Zacharanda, Wild Date, Scafelara, Ravenia, Jacutivasa, Variegate Mandar, Persimmon, Harguja Kanta etc. are notable.
One of the faculty members of Crop Science Department of Agricultural University served as Garden Curator for two years. This botanic garden is used for research programs of students of various faculties at the undergraduate, masters and PhD levels. Also, students from other nearby districts and educational institutions come to the botanical garden to learn about flora. Apart from the huge flora, there are portraits of various animals and birds and about half a hundred resting benches for the visitors.
Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University i.e. Bakribi can enter the Botanical Garden for free. General visitors have to collect entry coupon to enter inside. The Botanical Garden is open to all visitors every week from Sunday to Thursday from 2 pm to 5 pm. And on Friday and Saturday of the week it is open from 9 am to 5 pm.

how to go

From Dhaka by bus or train to Mymensingh district city, you can take a rickshaw or autorickshaw to visit the Botanical Garden located on the campus of Bangladesh Agricultural University.
From Dhaka you can go to Mymensingh by Ena, Alam Asia, Shamim Enterprise, Shoukhin or Safe Transport bus for a fare of Tk 320. It takes two and a half to three hours to travel from Dhaka to Mymensingh.
If you want to travel to Mymensingh by train from Dhaka, you can directly board any of these trains: Teesta Express (7:30 AM), Mohanganj Express (01:15 PM), Jamuna Express (04:45 PM), Brahmaputra (06:15 PM) and Haor Express (10:15 PM). You can go to Mymensingh. Class wise fare is 120 to 501 taka. It will take 3 to 4 hours to go.
