Tupamari Dighi Kurigram

Tupamari Dighi is the only picnic spot in the city located in Durgapur Union of Ulipur Upazila of Kurigram District. This picnic spot has been developed over an area of ​​about 25 acres centered around Tupamari Pond. Avid fishermen from the surrounding districts of Kurigram come to this pond for fishing. The number of visitors who come to enjoy the natural beauty besides having a picnic in the picturesque surroundings of the pond during winters is not less.

According to locals, the site was a low-lying swamp before the Tupamari pond was dug in 1980. In 1981, apart from cultivating fish and turtles in Tuppamari pond, various species of trees were planted to enhance the aesthetic beauty of the surroundings. Later it became quite popular with the locals as a modern picnic spot. Every 6 months different species of fish are released in this pond. By farming fish and turtles and selling various fruits and vegetables, about 4-5 lakh rupees are earned every year from Tupamari pond.

Kurigram can be reached by buses like Nabil, Haque Special, Hanif, Tanjila and Ena from Asadgate, Kalyanpur and Gabtali in the capital Dhaka. AC/Non-AC buses will cost Tk 950-1400 per person. Again from Kamalapur railway station you can take Kurigram Express or Rangpur Express train directly from Dhaka to Kurigram. The ticket price of these trains is Tk 640-2197 depending on the class.

One can reach Durgapur Union of Ulipur Upazila by CNG or Easybike from Kurigram district town. Tupamari pond is located in a beautiful environment, 10 km north of Ulipur upazila, 125 meters east of AKC road.

Hotel Arnab Palace, Hotel DK, Hotel Smriti, Hotel Nivedika and Hotel Mehedi are notable among the various quality residential hotels located near Ghoshpara and Central Bus Terminal in Kurigram city.

The food at Nanna Biryani or Asia Hotel at Shapla Mor in Kurigram is quite good. Apart from this, one of the popular dishes of Kurigram district is Sidal bharta and Bairati fish of Teesta river.

Kurigram has some notable places of interest like Ulipur Munsibari, Shaheed Mukti Jodha Memorial Plaque, Dharla Bridge, Bhooraband Zamindar Bari and Chandamari Mosque.
