Shapuree Island, Coxsbazar

Shahpuree Island/Shah Porir Dwip is located in the southernmost part of the mainland of Bangladesh . It is a village in Sabrang Union of Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar. The distance between Teknaf and Shahpari Island is approximately 15 kilometers. Despite its small population of around 40,000 residents, the island’s primary livelihoods are centered around fishing and salt production. There are markets, schools, madrasahs, mosques etc. in this island. Today, it is thought to be linked to the mainland, but it used to be an island.

As there is no life guard in Shahpari Island, there is no system to determine the tide of the sea. Therefore, if you want to go to the sea, you have to know the time of tide on your own initiative. Avoid going into the sea during low tide.

Shahpari Island has three beaches. From this island, the Maungdaw Province of Myanmar is visible. Also visible are Arcane Mountains and Saint Martin Island. Here the survival life of the fishermen fighting against the sea will inspire you. And you will see vast land of salt cultivation.

Besides, on the way to Shahpari Island, you can see Rohingya slums, tribal settlements, mountain caves and Mathin wells. If you want, you can travel from Saint Martin Island by trawler or boat . Besides, if you want, you can pitch a tent and go camping on Shahpari Island. Shahpari Island features a BDR post and a watchtower.

Teknaf can be directly reached by bus from Dhaka. You can take a bus from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar, and then another bus from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf. Buses from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf run between 6 am and 8 pm. Bus departure times vary slightly during monsoons. It takes around 2 to 2.5 hours to travel 80 km, with a bus fare of 140 taka per person. Alternatively, you can reach Teknaf from Cox's Bazar by local or reserved CNG.

It takes 40 to 45 minutes to go to Shahpari Island by CNG from Teknaf during dry season. In the rainy season, you need to rent a boat or trawler for 20 to 30 taka per person and then take a CNG halfway. The CNG fare from Teknaf to Shahpari Island is 100 taka per person. CNG stops in front of Shahpari Island Jetty, from where Golar Char is accessible on foot.

LGED has a branch in Shahpari Island. If you contact in advance, you can stay easily for 200 to 400 taka rent. However, after reaching Shahpari Island, you may be able to stay in this Bengal by showing a suitable reason. Check the boat or trawler departure times here as the boats or trawlers do not run regularly.
