Introduction to Sadarghat Dhaka

Sadarghat (Sadarghat) is an ancient and traditional river port built on the banks of Buriganga river in Dhaka city of Bangladesh. Although Sadarghat has lost its charm after the Padma Bridge was opened, this Nandi port is now very important for the transportation of many districts in the southern region.
From the Sadarghat launch terminal, launches and steamers ply about 45 routes to the southern districts of Bangladesh including Patuakhali, Barisal, Barguna, Bhola, Jhalkathi, Madaripur, Chandpur, Khulna, Hatia and Bagerhat.

History of Sadarghat

The exact date of the foundation of Sadarghat is uncertain in history. However, historians believe that it is about a thousand years old. Ancient settlements, origins and development of civilizations centered on rivers. The progress of civilization has also been in keeping with the speed of the river. Dhaka city was built on the banks of the river Buriganga named 'Dhakka'.
The antiquity of the Buriganga river is mentioned in the Kalika Purana written two thousand years ago named 'Briddhaganga'. Dhaka is mentioned as a thana or military outpost in Akbarnama and as a pargana of Sarkar Bajuha in Ain-i-Akbari.
Due to the location of the river in the center of the mainland and the sea communication with the whole country is good in all aspects, the city architects of that time chose this place to conduct all kinds of activities including defense, administration, trade and commerce.

You can come in front of Jagannath University from anywhere in the capital Dhaka. From where you can go to Sadarghat by rickshaw or on foot. Besides, you can go to Sadarghat by rickshaw from Gulistan. You can come directly to Sadarghat by private car or CNG.

What will you see at Sadarghat?

The most beautiful and biggest boats of Bangladesh meet at Sadarghat. Whenever you go to the ghat you can see those huge ships. You can also look around. You will get a different experience for sure.
You can also take a boat trip on the Buriganga river here. Ahsan Manzil is near Sadarghat . If the time is right, you can go there too.

There are some eateries in front of Sadarghat. Besides, you can go to Lakshibazar, Narinda or Nazira Bazar for interesting food of old Dhaka.
