Rupban Mura Comilla

An archaeological site located in Kotbari, about 9 km from Comilla city, is called Rupban Mura. In the 1990s, this monument, one of the ancient history of Bangladesh, located near the Comilla-Kalibazar road, was excavated. It is said that this place is one of the signs of Rahim and Roopban's love. There are many incidents and stories of their unequal love around this historical place built in the midst of green nature.

Archeological excavations have recovered the remains of a 34.14 and 25 meter vihara (monk's hermitage) and a 28.96 meter temple from Rupban Mura. Besides, a large elaborate Buddha statue and 5 coins were found from the eastern side of the temple, which are preserved in the Mainamati Museum. It is believed that these archaeological monuments were built between 7th and 12th centuries. Standing on the top of Roopban Mura's tall Vihar offers a mesmerizing view of the sunset. Therefore, many tourists from all over the country, including local residents of Comilla city, come to visit Rupban Mura for afternoon stroll and quiet time.

If you want to go to Roopban Mura, you have to come to Cumilla district. Comilla can be reached by train and bus from Dhaka. From Kamalapur, one can go to Comilla by various Chittagong bound trains including Mahanagar Prabhati/Godhuli, Coastal Express, Paharika Express and Tourna. Fare per person from Dhaka to Comilla is Tk 170-702.

By Road From Syedabad or Kamalapur bus stand in Dhaka, non-AC/AC buses like Royal Coach, Asia Aircon, BRTC, Prince, Asia Line, Trisha can be reached by Chittagong or Fenibound buses to Comilla. Bus fare will be 250 to 400 taka. By bus, get down at Kotbari bus stand in Comilla and go to Rupban Mura located on the hill between Bard and BGB establishments on the south side of Comilla-Kali Bazaar.

There are hotels of different quality in Comilla Kandirpar, Shimanagacha and Station Road. Among them, Hotel Sonali, Hotel Victoria Residential, Amania Rest House, Hotel Dream Land, Masum Rest House, Hotel Melody, Hotel Noor are notable.

On the way to Roopban Mura, you can have your choice of good quality restaurants including Irish Hill Highway Hotel, Saudia Hotel, Jhal Bangla Restaurant, Hotel Mainamati, Ujan Highway, Anwar Hotel, Saqib Hotel and Liza Hotel. And of course don't forget to taste the famous rasmalai and rasgolla, Bhagwati's peda, Mithai's malai chop from Manoharpur's mother store in Comilla.
