Introduction to Rabindranath Tagores Kacharibari Sirajganj

Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house is known as Rabindranath Tagore's Kacharibari, located in Shahjadpur upazila, 40 km from Sirajganj district headquarters. In the 18th century this building was used as a Nilakuti. In 1842, Rabindranath Tagore's grandfather, Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, bought the house in an auction from the British. From 1890 to 1896, Rabindranath Tagore stayed at this Kachari house in Shahjadpur for 7 years. Rabindranath Tagore wrote various literary works like Chitra, Sonar Tari, Chaitali, Gitanjali and Visarjan from this house. When the zamindari system was abolished, in 1969 Shilaidah Rabindranath's kuthibari was taken under the Directorate of Archeology to preserve it as a glorious monument. After independence in 1971, this Rabindra Kachari house was opened for public.
The Rabindra Kachari House, built in Indo-European style of architecture on an area of ​​about ten bighas, is now the Rabindra Museum. The 16 rooms on the first and second floors of the museum have pictures, photographs and used items of Rabindranath Tagore from his childhood to old age. Among which the artworks painted by the poet, photographs of the poet's childhood, youth and youth, palanquins, speedboats, wooden chairs, tea tables, couches and other used items and furniture are among them. Every day, many Rabindra fans from far and wide visit this place where the memory of the poet is enmeshed.

Entrance fee and schedule

Rabindra Kachari Bari Museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm except Sundays and other public holidays. However, there is a prayer break from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM on Friday. And the museum can be entered from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM on Monday. Entry fee is Tk 20 per person for Bangladeshi visitors and Tk 100 per person for foreign tourists.

how to go

From Dhaka's Gabtali or Mohakhali bus terminal, one can go to Sirajganj by Shyamli, Al-Hamra Paribahan, Unique, Shimando Super Service, SI, ABI or North Bengal bound buses. To go to Sirajganj by bus AC/Non AC buses will cost 500 to 1300 taka per person. You can also travel to Sirajganj by train. From Dhaka's Kamalapur or Airport Station, Sirajganj Express departs 6 days a week except Saturday, ticket price is Tk 200-368 depending on the seat. After reaching Sirajganj district city, Rabindra Kachari can go home by autorickshaw or CNG.
