Introduction to Poet Chandrabati Mandir

Poet Chandravati is recognized as the first female poet of the Bengali language. Chandravati was born in 1550. Baba Dwijavanshi Das wrote the well-known poem 'Mansa Mangal,' and his mother's name was Sulochana. Just 6 km from Kishoreganj town, there are two Shiv Mandirs with Karukarya Mandis on the banks of Phuleshwari River in Patowair village. This temple, known as Kabi Chandravati Shiva Mandir or Kabi Chandravati Mandir, is linked to many events in the poet's life. There are seating areas for visitors next to the temple. A lot of people go to the Kabi Chandravati temple every afternoon and on holidays. Beside the temple is the nearly ruined house of Kavi Chandravati. Watch the video of Chandravati Temple here.

history

Jayananda, a young Brahmin, is believed to have fallen deeply in love with the poet Chandravati during his youth. Accepting their relationship, the poet's father fixed their wedding day. Later, Jayananda broke his promise, converted, and married a Muslim woman. This deeply hurt Poet Chandravati. She then asked her father to build a temple for worship. Dwijavanshi Das established a temple on the bank of river Phuleswari to protect his daughter's abdar. To this day, the Kavi Chandravati Temple remains a testament to history on the banks of the Phuleswari River.
