Pathrail Mosque Faridpur

Patrail Masjid is a traditional building located in Azimnagar Union of Bhanga Upazila of Faridpur. The ancient mosque with rare and beautiful workmanship is also popularly known as Majlish Auliya Masjid. The rectangular and 10-domed Patrail Mosque is similar in architectural style to the Bagha Mosque in Rajshahi. There are 5 arched entrances on the eastern side of the mosque. There are two more entrances to the mosque on the south and north sides. Built with walls about two meters thick, the inside length of the mosque is 21.79 meters and the width is 8.60 meters. Near the Auliya Masjid in Patrail Dighidar is the shrine of the famous Sufi saint Majlish Abdullah Khan Auliya, madrasa and two huge dighis.

No exact information is available about the construction date of Apurba Patrail Mosque. However, it is believed that in 1400 AD during the reign of Sultan Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah, the famous Sufi dervish Majlish Abdullah Khan Auliya came to preach Islam in the region and built the mosque. And after his name it came to be known as Majlish Auliya Mosque. Currently, Patrail Mosque is under the supervision of Bangladesh Archeology Department.

You can go directly to Faridpur by Golden Line and South Line buses from Dhaka Gabtali Bus Stand . You can see the Patrail Mosque after going down the Bhanga Roundabout on the Faridpur-Barisal highway, 8 km east of the Bhanga-Mawa Bishwa Road and further 4 km from Pulia.

You can also take a bus to Mawa from Gulistan Postagola or Babubazar Bridge in Dhaka and take a launch/speed boat to Mawa via Kaorakandi and take a bus to Pulia Bazar and then take an auto to Patrail Mosque.

B: D: In case of visiting Patrail Masjid, please reserve the transportation together. If not, you may face a transport crisis on the way back from Patrail Mosque.

There is no accommodation near Patrail Mosque. However, Bhanga Upazila has limited overnight accommodation. But it is best to move to Faridpur.
