Paharpur Bihar Museum Naogaon

Paharpur Bihar Museum was established in the 60s under the Directorate of Archeology of Bangladesh, near the largest and oldest Paharpur Buddha Bihar in South Asia, located in Naogaon district. Located in Paharpur village of Paharpur union, about 33 km from Naogaon, the museum has various ancient archaeological artifacts preserved and is the main attraction for the visiting visitors.

In 1998, the old building of Paharpur Bihar Museum was demolished and a new building was constructed. This museum with 4 galleries houses the artefacts collected from Paharpur Vihar and surrounding areas. Among the artifacts preserved in Paharpur Museum are bronze busts of Buddha, terracotta plaques, decorated bricks, stone statues and terracotta taijaspatra etc.

Paharpur Museum is open every Tuesday to Saturday from April to September from 10 am to 6 pm and Monday from 2.30 pm to 6 pm. And from October to March it is open daily from Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Monday from 2.30pm to 5pm. Entrance fee per person to Paharpur museum is 100 taka.

Naogaon can be reached by AC/Non-AC buses of SR, Shyamoli, Hanif or Mau Enterprises from Kalyanpur, Gabtali and Abdullahpur in Dhaka. The AC/Non-AC bus fare will be from Tk 680 to Tk 1400 depending on the bus. Paharpur Museum can be reached by direct bus from Baludanga Bus Terminal in Naogaon. And the distance from Jaipurhat district to Paharpur museum is only 12 km. After reaching Jaipurhat bus stand you can take CNG or auto rickshaw to Paharpur museum. Besides, if you take the train and get down at Jamalganj station in Joypurhat district, you can easily go to Paharpur Museum which is only 5 km away.

Paharpur has no good overnight accommodation. However, you can stay overnight in residential hotels like Hotel Plaban, Hotel Yamuna, Hotel Abkash, Mallika Inn, Hotel Faryal and Hotel Raj located in Naogaon district.

There are some good food hotels and restaurants at Gosthati junction in Naogaon.

Altadighi, Dana Park and Paharpur Buddhvihar are among the various places of interest located in Naogaon.
