Popular Bengali novelist Niharranjan Gupta was born in Calcutta, India. His ancestral residence (Nihar Ranjan Gupta Family House) is located in Itna village of Lohagara upazila, just 18 km from Narail district town. Built on a 70th-century site, the two-storied house surrounded by trees has three rooms with balconies and a shrine in the northern two-storied portion and a temple in the southern single-storied portion with 7 rooms and a narrow arched porch. Each room of the building has multiple niches and wall cupboards. Niharranjan Gupta's house is decorated with elaborate wooden flowers and foliage on the doors, windows and wall cupboards making the house more attractive. There is a pond in front of the house.
In 2003, Bangladesh Directorate of Archeology declared this historic house as a protected antiquities. In the 1990s, Shishu Swarg-2 was built by artist Ali Azgar Raja and teacher Narayan Chandra Biswas at Niharranjan Gupta's home to teach art to children. However, due to lack of proper patronage, this program was stopped. Currently, this archaeological monument built during the British period has faded a lot with the evolution of time.
