Mongla Port Bagerhat

Mongla Port or Mongla Port is located at the confluence of Pasur and Mongla rivers in Selabuniya Mauza of Rampal Upazila in Bagerhat District of Khulna Division. Established on December 1, 1950, Mongla Port is the second largest sea port in Bangladesh. Distance from Khulna to Mongla port is 48 km. The port is located about 100 km north of the Bay of Bengal. Mongla port is connected with other inland river ports and Khulnaz railway terminal.

The Mongla port is open 24 hours for discharge of goods, with a maximum vessel length of 225 meters. Every year, about 400 ships anchor at Mongla port, importing and exporting about 3 million metric tons of goods. The port has eleven jetties, seven sheds and eight warehouses for loading and unloading of goods. There are also twelve anchorages floating deep in the river. Mongla Port Authority has constructed a rest house at Hiran Point in Sundarbans for the accommodation of sailors.

Initially, Mongla port was built 18 km upstream of Pasur river from Chila, then on December 11, 1950, when the port was opened for foreign ships, the port was shifted to the current location of Mongla in 1954, considering more facilities for anchoring ships. Although this Mongla port is connected with almost all the ports of the world, most of the ships come here from Asia, Middle East, Australia, Europe and North America.

Bagerhat by bus from Dhaka to Mongla: From Dhaka's Gabtali or Sayedabad bus terminal, you can easily reach Bagerhat by Meghna Paribahan, Tourist Paribahan, Sakura Paribahan, Sohag Paribahan, Hanif, Bonphool, Eagle, Falguni, Baleshwar, Dola, Hamim etc. The bus fare will be 650 to 800 taka per person. After coming to Bagerhat, take a bus bound for Rupsa and first come to Katakhali bus stand and from there take a bus bound for Mongla and reach Mongla port for Tk 100 to Tk 120.

Direct bus from Dhaka to Mongla: It is best to take a direct bus from Syedabad bus stand to Mongla. In this case, you can go directly to Mongla by Sundarban and tourist service bus for a fare of 650 to 700 taka per person. Khulna to Mongla by train: You can easily reach Mongla by commuter train from Khulna to Mongla. You can travel in 1st class seat, luxury chair and luxury seat in the train. Mongla commuter trains on this route are closed on Tuesdays.

Mongla town is on the other bank of Pasur river, but there are residential hotels on both banks. Bangladesh Tourism Corporation Hotel is located next to Pasur Mongla Bus Stand.

Besides, you can stay at Bagerhat for the night. There are government guesthouses and various hotels in Bagerhat Sadar. Apart from Momtaz, Hotel Abhi, you can stay overnight at Hotel Al Amin and Hotel Mohana, which are adjacent to the central bus station, from 400 to 1000 rupees.

You can eat in several standard hotels in Mongla, besides, you can go to hotels located near the bus stand or dargah in Bagerhat town. But definitely know about the food quality and price.
