Maharajar Dighi Panchagarh

Maharajar Dighi is a historical pond located in Amarkhana Union, just 15 km away from Panchagarh district headquarters. It is believed that this lake was dug during the reign of Maharaja Prithu in a 1500-year-old historical kingdom called Bhitargarh.

This large clear water reservoir with banks has a total area of ​​about 800 x 400 yards and a water depth of about 45 feet. There are about 10 ghats around Maharaja Dighi surrounded by trees. It is said that King Prithu, along with his family and riches, was attacked by a lower caste called “Kichaks” and sacrificed himself in this lake fearing destruction in contact with them.

Every year on the occasion of Bengali New Year, a huge fair is organized on the bank of Maharaja's Dighi. At that time, visitors from various districts around the neighboring country of India also came to visit the fair.

Nabil Paribahan, Hanif Enterprise, Tanjila Travel, Barkat Travel can go to Panchagarh from Dhaka's Shyamoli, Gabtali Bus Terminal and Mirpur. Non AC bus fare from Dhaka to Panchagarh is Tk 1000-1100 and AC bus fare is Tk 1300-1900.

If you want to go by train, you can come to Panchagarh from Kamalapur in Dhaka by Panchagarh Express, Ekta and Hirtyan Express trains. According to the class, the train ticket fare ranges from Tk 695 to Tk 2398 per person.

From Panchagarh bus terminal take a bus bound for Tentulia/Banglabandha and get down at Bord Bazar by rickshaw or battery operated auto. Besides, you can rent a private car/micro from Panchagarh for the whole day.
