Introduction to Kutubdia Island

Kutubdia is an island upazila under Cox's Bazar district. The area of ​​this diverse island is about 216 square kilometers. The island has Bangladesh's largest wind farm, beaches, salt farms, lighthouses and the shrine of Qutub Auliya.

history

It is believed that the Kutubdia island arose in the ocean at the end of the fourteenth century. And people started walking on this island at the end of the fifteenth century. An ascetic man named 'Qutubuddin' established an astana on this island. Later, when Muslims expelled from Arakan started coming to this island, Qutbuddin gave them shelter. As a sign of respect, the island was named 'Qutubuddin's Diya' which later came to be known as 'Qutubdia'.

Kutubdia Channel: This channel has to be crossed while going to Kutubdia Island from Magnama Ghat. It is very hot during other times of the year except winter.
Qutub Auliya Darbar: To see the Qutub Auliya Darbar Sharif you have to visit Dhurong area of ​​the island. Shah Abdul Malek Al Qutbi, the founder of this court, was born in 1911. He died on February 11, 2000. Thousands of devotees flock every year on the death anniversary of 7 Falgun Shah Abdul Malek Al Qutbi.
Lighthouse: A lighthouse was built at Qutubdia many years ago to guide seafaring ships, the ruins of which can be seen at low tide. If you go north along the beach you will see the newly built lighthouse.
Beaches: Kutubdia has a beach of about 16 km long. Tourist traffic is very low on this deserted beach, but the busyness of fishermen can be seen here. The main feature of the beach is the large number of seagulls roaming around here. Kutubdia Beach is the ideal place to watch the sunset.
Wind Power Station: South of Kutubdia beach is the largest wind power station in Bangladesh. About 1000 kilowatts of electricity is generated here.
Salt Cultivation: Salt cultivation is done in Qutubdia in winter. If you want to see natural salt production, you can come to Qutubdia.

How to get to Kutubdia Island

Kutubdia Island from Dhaka If you want to go to Kutubdia from Dhaka, first you have to go to the bus stand of Chakria Upazila of Cox's Bazar and then go to Kutubdia via Magnama Ghat. Sohag Paribahan, TR Travels, Green Line Paribahan, Hanif Enterprise, St.Martin Paribahan, Saudia Paribahan, S Alam, Shyamoli, Unique, Eagle etc. AC/Non-AC buses ply to Cox's Bazar daily. The bus fare will be from 900 to 2500 taka. Take these buses and get down at Chakaria bus stand of Cox's Bazar.
Chakria can be reached by any bus from Chittagong to Kutubdia Island Chittagong Bahaddarhat Bus Stand or New Bridge Bus Stand to Chakria / Cox's Bazar. But J.B. It is better to go by Express, S Alam or Saudia Direct Bus. It will take about two and a half to three hours to go to Chakria with a bus fare of Tk 150-180. From Chakaria bus stand, you have to go to Magnama Ghat by local CNG at a fare of Tk 60-80 per person (reserve Tk 280-320). It will take approximately 40-50 minutes. Besides, you can go to Magnama Ghat in 2-3 hours from Chittagong's new bridge with CNG at a fare of Tk 180 per person. From Firinga Bazar in Chittagong at 7 in the morning, you can go directly to Baraghop Ghat in Qutubdia Island by engine wooden boat for 100 Tk per person.
From Cox's Bazar, Qutubdia can be reached from Cox's Bazar to Chakria Bus Stand to Magnama Ghat or from Cox's Bazar to Maheshkhali by boat and from Maheshkhali to Magnama Ghat by road.
From Chakaria, Qutubdia Chakaria bus stand, take local CNG at a fare of Tk 60-80 per person (reserve Tk 280-320) and go to Magnama Ghat. It will take approximately 40-50 minutes. From Magnama Ghat, you can reach Kutubdia Island in 20 minutes by engine boat for 15-20 Taka or by speed boat for 60-80 Taka in 7-8 minutes. From Magnama Ghat, one can go to Baraghop Ghat or Darbar Ghat by speed boat. 20 to 30 taka rickshaw fare will be required to go to Baraghope market from Kutubdia island ghat.

Day trip planning and expenses

If you leave Chittagong early in the morning, you can see the wind power and light house and return during the day. It will take 6-7 hours to come and go, rest of the time you can explore. You can go to wind power plant from Baraghop market by 30-40 taka rickshaw fare or 5-10 taka tempu fare. After seeing the wind power plant, you can go to hospital gate by rickshaw, from hospital gate you can go to court gate by CNG or rickshaw or jeep. Qutubdia Lighthouse can be seen from there. After seeing everything, the last speed boat should return to the base before leaving.

Travel Tips

Kutubdia Island has no electricity system, it is met with generators and solar power. There is no system for determining ocean tides. Therefore, if you want to go to the sea, you have to know the time of tide on your own initiative. Avoid going into the sea during low tide. Know in advance the last time to leave the island by speed boat and engine boat. Speed ​​boats and engine boats usually operate till sunset.
