Introduction to Khulna Divisional Museum

On September 12, 1998, the second largest Khulna Divisional Museum of Bangladesh was established next to the public hall adjacent to Shibbari Mor in the city of Khulna district . Photographs of various heritage sites and other important structures of the southern region are one of the attractions of this museum. The rare artefacts obtained from the excavations of various places like Bharat Bhayana of Jessore, Barbazar of Jhenaidah and Khan Jahan Ali Tomb of Bagerhat have been preserved in the Khulna Divisional Museum.
Apart from this, the Khulna Divisional Museum has various antiquities of the Gupta, Pala, Sen, Mughal and British periods, terracotta, stone and black stone statues, Mughal period gold and silver coins, copper, iron, brass, clay and glass utensils, toys made of various metals. , Weapons and implements, calligraphy and various artifacts of history, tradition and ancient culture of different regions of Khulna Division are kept for display. Presently the Khulna Divisional Museum is under the supervision of Bangladesh Directorate of Archaeology.

Entry fee and time limit

The museum is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm during the summer season. And in winter it is open from 9 am to 5 pm. There is a break from 1 pm to 1 30 minutes. The museum is closed every Sunday and other public holidays. Besides, the museum is open for half a day every Monday of the week. Entry fee to Khulna Divisional Museum is Tk 15, Tk 5 for children below five years. And the entry fee for foreign tourists from SAARC countries is Tk 50 and the entry fee for visitors from other countries is Tk 100.

how to go

In case of going to Khulna departmental museum, first you have to come to Khulna city. Khulna can be reached by train, bus or launch from Dhaka. You can go to Khulna by buses like Sohag, Hanif, Falguni, Seba and Green Line from Dhaka's Gulisthan or Sayedabad. The fare will be Tk 650-1400 depending on the bus. The distance of departmental museum from Khulna city is only 4 km. By bus you can get down at Sonadanga bus terminal in Khulna city and take local transport to visit Khulna Divisional Museum in front of Zia Hall at Majid Sarani at Shibbari traffic junction.
By rail, one can go to Khulna by Sundarban Express or Chitra Express train from Dhaka's Kamalapur. The rent will be Tk 625-2168. And by sea every Wednesday steamers like PS Mahsud or PS Ostrich travel from Dhaka to Khulna via Mongla.

There are several good restaurants in Shivbari intersection of Khulna city. Sandesh, 1 taka puri, kacchi biryani and lobster are famous in Khulna city.

Among the other places to visit in Khulna are Bangabandhu Island , Shaheed Hadis Park , Karamjal Tourist Center, Sundarbans and Katka beach.
