Bongobondhu Char Bangabondhu Island Khulna

Bongobondhu Island or Bongobondhu Dwip is located in the Bay of Bengal between Hiran Point and Dublar Char, about 10 km from Dublar Char in Mongla Upazila of Khulna Division. Located at a height of about two meters above the sea level, the area of ​​the char is about 10 square kilometers. Bangabandhu Island was found by the local fishermen while fishing, but there is no good information about the discovery of char. However, in 1992, a devotee of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman named Malek Faraji landed on this island with two companions and later he put up a signboard named Bangabandhu Island.

In Bangabandhu pasture, the critically endangered species of birds, spoon-billed batan and Eurasian oystercatcher can be seen. If you are lucky, you will see Irrawaddy dolphins in the river that flows by Char. Discussions are going on regarding the construction of tourist center, watch tower etc. at Bangabandhu Char or Bangabandhu Island, which has huge potential for tourism.

Bagerhat can be easily reached by Meghna Paribahan ( 01717-388583 ), Tourist Paribahan ( 01711-131078 ), Sakura Paribahan ( 01711-010450 ), Sohag Paribahan ( 01718-679302 ) etc. from Dhaka's Gabtali or Sayedabad bus terminal . Then you can hire a boat to go to Bangabandhu Char from Mongla port in Bagerhat. But the best is to take a direct bus to Mongla from Syedabad bus stand. In this case, you can go to Sundarbans and tourist service bus for 650 to 700 taka per person.

Returning from Bangabandhu Island in the day, you can stay at Mongla Bangladesh Tourism Corporation's motel for Tk 600 to Tk 2000. You can contact 04662-75100 to book the room . Also, you can stay overnight in Mongla city for 200 to 800 taka in standard hotels.

If you want to spend the night in Sundarbans, you can spend the night in a tourist vessel. Apart from this, you can stay overnight at Nilakmal at Hiran Point, Kachikhali at Tiger Point and Katkay Forest Department rest houses. 3000 rupees per room in Neelkamal and Kachikhali. However, if you rent 4 rooms in Kachikhali, you can stay for 10,000 rupees. It takes 2000 taka to take a room at Katka rest house. Foreign travelers have to pay Tk 5000 per room to spend the night in these rest houses.
