Introduction to Keane Bridge

Surma river flows through the center of Sylhet, a divisional city of Bangladesh. And the iron bridge on the Surma river is called Keane Bridge . This establishment known as the “Gateway” of Sylhet city is very well known to all as a heritage site of Sylhet. Built in 1936, Keen Bridge is 350.52 meters long and 5.4 meters wide.
In the thirties of the 19th century, the governor of Assam, Michael Keane, visited Sylhet. Then the need arose to construct a bridge over the Surma River. The bridge was built and named in memory of Michael Queen. Michael Keane was the Governor of Assam from 1932 to 1937.
During the Great War of Liberation in 1971, Pakistani forces blew up part of the bridge with dynamite. Later in 1977, the damaged part of the bridge was rebuilt with the cooperation of Bangladesh Railway.

The distance from Dhaka to Queen Bridge by road is about 233 km and the distance by rail is about 319 km. Queen Bridge is easily accessible from anywhere in Sylhet city by CNG, rickshaw or auto rickshaw. Queen Bridge is only half a kilometer away from Sylhet Railway Station, so if you want you can walk from Queen Bridge.
Dhaka to Sylhet bus departs from Gabtali and Syedabad bus terminals in Dhaka Green Line, Saudia, S Alam, Shyamli and Ena Paribahan AC buses ply from Fakirapool, Syedabad and Mohakhali bus stations, fares usually between Tk 1400 to Tk 1500. Also, non-AC buses of Shyamoli, Hanif, Unique, Ena Paribahan will be available from Dhaka to Sylhet at a fare of Tk 680 to Tk 700 per person.
From Dhaka to Sylhet by train you can choose Upaban, Jayantika, Parabat or Kalni Express trains from Kamalapur or Biman Bandar railway station as your travel companion. Train fare will be 375 to 1288 taka depending on the class.
If you want to go to Sylhet from Dhaka in the fastest time and easily, you can travel by air. From Shahjalal International Airport, Biman Bangladesh, NovoAir and USBangla flights depart regularly for Sylhet.
From Chittagong to Sylhet Chittagong can be reached by bus, train and air. From Chittagong to Sylhet by train, two trains namely Paharika and Udayan Express ply 6 days a week. Train fare will be 450 to 1541 taka depending on the class.
