Kalipada Kp Basu House Jhenaidah

20 km from Jhenaidah district, Harishankarpur is the home of world famous mathematician KP Bose on the banks of Navganga river. In 1907, KP Bose built the palatial two-storied building with 17 rooms in Harishankarpur. Although the house currently lies in an unguarded state of disrepair, many visitors flock to see the once magnificent house. A road has also been constructed in Jhenaidah district in memory of this famous mathematician.

KP Basur i.e. Kalipad Basu was born in Harishankarpur village of Jhenaidah Sadar in 1865. His father Mahima Charan Bose was an employee of the registry office in Harishankarpur. KP Bose's erudition in complex subjects like mathematics can be observed from childhood. After completing his village school education, he joined Lord Ripon College and obtained a higher degree in Mathematics from there. Later in 1892, he joined Dhaka College as a mathematics teacher. He died in 1924 due to Parniss malaria fever. K. P. Bose is said to be the discoverer of the first modern algebraic formulas. He did various researches on Algebra and Geometry and wrote numerous books for the growth and excellence of Mathematics. Besides, he founded KP Bose Publishing Company in Kolkata.

Jhenaidah can be reached by Royal, Sonar Tari, SB Transport, JR Transport, Chuadanga, Hanif, Darshana and Purbasha deluxe buses from Dhaka's Gabtali. You can go to KP Bose's house by local vehicles from Jhenaidah district.
