Introduction to Dhanbari Masjid Tangail

Dhanbari Nawab Manzil is one of the zamindar houses and the only traditional resort in Bangladesh. One of the attractions of this resort is Dhanbari Masjid or Nawab Masjid. This 700-year-old traditional mosque adds beauty to the royal resort of Dhanbari Nawab Manzil. Built in the Mughal style of architecture, the Dhanbari Mosque features exquisite craftsmanship in its mosaics and marble floors. This Dhanbari mosque, built on about 10 khata land, was rectangular in appearance earlier, but after various renovations, it has now become square in shape. The mosque has a total of 5 entrances with 3 fluted arches on the east side and one more on the north-south side. The shrine of Nawab Bahadur Syed Nawab Ali Chowdhury is located in the adjacent room of Nawab Masjid. Ever since the death of the Nawab in 1929, recitation of the Holy Quran has been taking place 24 hours a day at this shrine, which has not stopped for even a minute till today. At present seven Qari recite the Qur'an every two hours.
The central mihrab niche of the Dhanbari mosque is octagonal and has multi-grooved arches and is decorated with floral designs. In addition, there are two more unadorned mihrabs on either side of the central mihrab. Beside the central mihrab is a mimbar decorated with porcelain mosaic designs. An ancient graveyard can be seen next to the mosque. Three beautiful Mughal chandeliers still adorn the inside of the mosque. Dhanbari Mosque has three domes and a beautiful minaret. There is also a tradition of swearing among people around this mosque. To enter the Dhanbari Nawab Manzil, one has to pay a ticket of 30 rupees, which is valid for two hours after entering the Nawab Manzil.
