Zamindar Jadunath Chowdhury, a craftsman, established Nagarpur Zamindar Bari in Tangail's Nagarpur Upazila in the nineteenth century . Jadunath Chowdhury, the first man of Chowdhury Bari and his descendants Upedra Mohan Chowdhury, Jagdindra Mohan Chowdhury and Shashank Mohan Chowdhury used to hold the zamindari from this zamindar bari built on an area of about 54 acres. Nagarpur Chowdhury Bari flows east of Dhaleswari and west of Jamuna river. It is said that Jadunath Chowdhury built this Chowdhury Bari in Nagarpur centering on the waterway between Nagarpur and Kolkata from the plan of decorating Nagarpur like Kolkata. Later Zamindar Satish Chandra Chowdhury, eldest son of Upedra Mohan Chowdhury, established schools, colleges, temples, charity hospitals, playgrounds and haat bazaar in Nagarpur. The then British government conferred the title of Rai Bahadur on Satish Chandra Chowdhury in recognition of his philanthropic activities.
Built in a blend of Western and Mughal culture, the four-storied Nagarpur zamindar bari has numerous small and large rooms, with beautiful white stone interiors striking. Among the other structures of the Chowdhury house, the main building, the Nahbat Khana, the guest house, the Ghora Dalan with artistic craftsmanship, Mandit Til Tala, the Jhulan Dalan for worship, the Parir Dalan and the Rangmahal are specially mentioned. Adjacent to the Rangmahal situated with the Nagarpur Chowdhury house, there was a well-equipped zoo with various animals like peacocks, cockatoos, deers and mynas. And on the south side of the house there is a lake called Upendra Sarovar on 11 acres of land. Currently, Nagarpur Women's Degree College has been established in the main building of Chowdhury Bari.
