Introduction to Bir Shrestha Nur Mohammad Majar Jessore

Bir Shreshtha Noor Mohammad Sheikh was born on February 26, 1936 in Maheshkhola village of Chandikpur, Narail district. Noor Mohammad's father's name is Mohammad Amanat Sheikh and mother's name is Jennatunnessa The son of a farmer father, Noor Mohammad was very interested in various cultural activities like song theatre He joined the East Pakistan Rifles on 14 March 1959. After Noor Mohammad was transferred from Dinajpur to Jessore sector on 10 July 1970, he was promoted as Lance Naik. Then in 1971, he participated in the war from the 8th sector in the war of liberation.
On September 5, 1971, while Noor Mohammad and 4 others were on a standing patrol in Gowalhati village of Jessore district, Pakistani forces suddenly surrounded the patrol from three sides and started firing at around nine thirty in the morning. Sepoy Nannu Mia was shot and fell on the ground during the counter firing of the freedom fighters. Then Noor Mohammad lifted Nannu Mia on his shoulders and started firing indiscriminately with the LMG, forcing the enemy to retreat. Suddenly a mortar shell hit Noor Mohammad's right shoulder. Still he was anxious to save the injured Nannu Mia. Nannu handed over his LMG to Sepoy Mustafa and told him to move safely with Mia. In order to save the lives of his comrades, Mustafar decided to stop the enemy soldiers with his rifle. Although his fellow soldiers were safe, his body was recovered from a bush near the battlefield and buried in Kashipur village of Jessore.

Jessore can be reached by road, rail and air from the capital Dhaka. And from Jessore district headquarter by bus, private car or auto, reaching Dihi Union in Sharsha Upazila, you can go to Bir Shrestha Lance Naik Nur Mohammad Sheikh Majar by rickshaw. If you want to break, you have to go to Kashipur from Kamarbari stand on Sharsha Road through Laguna. You will see the Samadhi after two minutes on the left hand side from the Kashipur stand.
Dhaka to Jessore by Bus  : Several AC/Non-AC buses of Sohag, Hanif, SP Golden Line, MR Enterprises, Desh Travels, AK Travels, Green Line, Shyamoli and Eagle Transport operate from Kalyanpur, Gabtali and Kalabagan in Dhaka. Non-AC bus fare to Jessore is Tk 550-750 and AC bus fare is Tk 750-1300.
Dhaka to Jessore by Train  : Intercity Sundarban Express train departs from Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station at 8:15 AM on 6 days of the week except Wednesdays to Jessore and another intercity train named Chitra Express departs to Jessore on 6 days of the week except Sundays at 7:30 PM and Benapole. Express departs for Jessore at 11:45 PM on 6 days of the week except Wednesday. Class wise train ticket price is Tk 560-1,927.
Bangladesh Biman, US-Bangla Airlines and NovoAir regularly operate Dhaka-Jesore route from the domestic terminal of Dhaka Shahjalal International Airport.
