Ali Amjads Clock Sylhet

Ali Amjader Ghari, located on the banks of the Surma River, is an important 19th-century building in Sylhet. Ali Ahmad Khan, the zamindar of Prithimpasha of Kulaura, Sylhet, built this historic clock house in 1874 AD next to the Keen Bridge. The watch came to be known as Ali Amjad's watch after Ali Ahmad Khan's son. Ali Amjad's huge domed clock house made of corrugated metal on iron poles is 26 feet high. And the clock is 9 feet 8 inches long and 8 feet 10 inches wide.

This ancient clock house was damaged in the liberation war of 1971. The clock has since been refurbished at various times. The clock of Ali Amjad is currently functioning as a result of recent repairs by the Sylhet City Corporation in 2011.

From Dhaka to Sylhet by train, you can choose Upaban, Jayantika, Parabat or Kalni Express train from Kamalapur or Biman Bandar railway station. Train fare will be 375 to 1288 taka depending on the class.
