Jaflong

Jaflong is known as the daughter of nature. Jaflong is one of the favorite places to visit in Sylhet district . Goainghat Upazila of Sylhet is bordering India's Meghalaya border, Jaflong is decorated with nature's gifts. The crystal clear water flow of Piane River flowing over the rocks, the hanging Dauki bridge, the play of white clouds on the high mountains make Jaflong unique. Jaflong manifests a different appearance in each season, which keeps tourists interested in visiting it throughout the year.

To go to Jaflong you have to come to Sylhet, the country of tea. Sylhet can be reached from different parts of the country in different ways. Sylhet can be reached from Dhaka by bus, train and air. Let's know the details.

Sylhet-bound buses depart from Fakirapool, Gabtali, Syedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals in Dhaka. Among them are Green Line, Saudia, Unique, S Alam, Shamli, Ena and London Express Bus. AC bus fare per person is between Tk 1400 to Tk 1500 and non AC bus fare Tk 680-750 per person. The distance from Dhaka to Sylhet is about 235 km and it takes about 6 to 8 hours to reach Sylhet by bus.

If you want to go to Sylhet from Dhaka by train, you can choose Upban, Jayantika, Parabat or Kalni Express train from Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station. The price of the train ticket varies from Tk 375 to Tk 1288 depending on the class. It takes about 6-7 hours to go to Sylhet by train.

And you can choose the air route from Dhaka to Sylhet in the fastest time. From Shahjalal International Airport to Sylhet by Biman Bangladesh, NovoAir and US Bangla Air, ticket prices range from Tk 3,500 to Tk 10,000 depending on the class.

There are several buses from Chittagong to Sylhet including Greenline, Ena, Saudia and London Express among others. AC bus fare 1200-1600 taka and non-ac bus fare 800 to 900 taka. Paharika and Udayan Express trains run from Chittagong to Sylhet. According to the class, the price of the train ticket is Tk 450 to Tk 1541. Besides, there is an opportunity to go to Sylhet via Dhaka by air from Chittagong.

Distance from Sylhet to Jaflong is about 50 km. It will take about one and a half hour to 2 hours to go directly from Sylhet to Jaflong. You can go to Jaflong by bus, CNG, Laguna or microbus. Jaflong bound bus departs from Kadmatoli. Local bus fare is Tk 70 per person and gatelock non-stop bus fare is Tk 100. If you want at your convenience, you can also board the bus from Sobhanighat in Sylhet city. Apart from buses, there are local Laguna services to Jaflong.

If you want to go by reserve vehicle, you can get CNG, Laguna or Microbus from in front of Bandarbazar Shishupark. Also, you will get vehicles to reserve from almost all places in Sylhet. Maximum 5 people can sit in CNG, 10 people in Laguna and according to the seats of microbus.

CNG fare for the whole day including going to Jaflong will be 1200 to 1500 taka, Laguna 2000 to 2500 taka and microbus reserve will cost 3000 to 5000 taka. It is better to reserve a car if you are traveling together and can easily visit other places of interest en route. Negotiate what you want to see before fixing the car.

And if you are going for a picnic or a family trip, you can go directly to Jaflong by bus or private car. At present the road to Jaflong is quite good. The road to Jaflong Zero Point via Guchchgram BGB Camp is more popular than going to Mamar Bazar.

Generally tourists visiting Jaflong return to Sylhet city for overnight stay. Moreover, it is convenient to go to other destinations from Sylhet. Most of the hotels in Sylhet are located around Shahjalal Mazar. From Dargah Gate to Ambarkhana, Taltala, Lamabazar, Kadmatoli there are residential hotels of different quality. If you want to stay at low cost, you will find many hotels of 500-1000 taka in Darga Gate area.

The residential hotels in Valman include Hotel Holy Gate, Holy Inn, La Vista Hotel, Pansy Inn, Hotel Metro International, Britannia Hotel etc. Staying in these hotels will cost from Tk 2,000 to Tk 10,000. Luxury hotels and resorts include Nirvana Inn, Hotel Noor Jahan Grand, Rose View Hotel, Nazimgar Resort, Grand Palace and some others. It will cost between 5,000 to 30,000 taka per night.

And if you have to stay at Jaflong then there are some rest houses like Jaflong Green Resort near Zero Point or Jaflong Inn Hotel and Hotel Paris in Mamar Bazaar area. Among the restaurants located in Jaflong are Jaflong View Restaurant, Border View Restaurant and Jaflong Tourist Restaurant. Food is available anytime. However, if many people go together in a group, it is better to order food in advance.

If you want to eat in the city of Sylhet, you can eat your favorite food at a cheap price at Pansi, Panch Bhai or Palki restaurants located in Zindabazar area. These restaurants are appreciated by all for their variety of bhartas, khichuri and meat padas. You can have breakfast for Tk 50-100 per person and lunch or dinner will cost Tk 150-300.
