201 Dome Mosque Tangail

201 Gombuj Masjid/The 201 Dome Mosque is located in Dakshin Pathalia village of Gopalpur Upazila of Tangail District, which is already recognized as the largest number of dome mosques in the world. And the position of this mosque is second in terms of the height of the minaret. The mosque is known as '201 Dome Mosque' due to the total of 201 elaborate domes on the roof of the mosque.

In January 2013, the construction of a huge mosque and mosque complex started on 15 bigha land under the initiative of Muktijodha Rafiqul Islam Welfare Trust. This two-storied mosque is 144 feet long and 144 feet wide. The main dome on the roof of Drishtinandan Mosque is 81 feet high and around this dome 200 more domes of 17 feet height have been constructed. There are four minarets of 101 feet high at the four corners of the mosque. Also, four minarets of 81 feet height have been placed side by side. And the main minaret has been built next to the mosque, the height of which is 451 feet. 201 dome mosque has the opportunity to offer prayers for about 15 thousand worshipers at the same time. The entire Quran Sharif is written on the wall of the mosque. And 50 maunds of brass were used to make the main door of the mosque.

Apart from this, the mosque complex has a mortuary, a free hospital, an orphanage, an old age home, and a facility for rehabilitating the destitute freedom fighters and their families.

201 If you want to visit the Dome Mosque from any part of Bangladesh, you must first come to Tangail district headquarters. The mosque is 50 km from Tangail Sadar and 7 km from Gopalpur Upazila Sadar. You can easily go to 201 Gumbuj Mosque from Tangail by bus or CNG to Gopalpur upazila by renting an auto or CNG.

You can go to Gopalpur by taking the Drutgami bus from Dhaka's Mohakhali bus stand for a fare of Tk 150-200. From Gopalpur you can go to 201 Gumbuj Masjid by CNG/Easybike/Van for Tk 20-30. You can take fast bus from any point of Dhaka Tangail highway. Besides, you can go to Gopalpur by fast bus from Tangail Sadar by bus or train from Dhaka to Tangail. From there you can go to the mosque as above. If you want to go a bit more comfortably, you can take Dhanbari Gami AC bus from Kalyanpur and get down at Ghatail Cantonment and go to Gopalpur by CNG. In case of return you can come by bus from Gopalpur. The last Dhaka-bound bus leaves Gopalpur at 5 pm.

You can leave Dhaka in the morning and go to Tangail during the day and come back in the night, but you have to stay in Tangail town for the night. If you want, you can spend the night in numerous residential hotels of different quality in addition to luxury facilities like Elenga and Yamuna Resorts .

There are some small and big food hotels in front of the mosque. You can have light breakfast or lunch at the local hotel there. Besides, Gopalpur market has good quality food shops. You can take food with you if you want.

If you want to visit Dhaka in one day, you must leave early in the morning. If the road is jammed, it will take a lot of time. The bus coming from Gopalpur to Dhaka stops before evening. But if you come to Tangail city, you will get a bus or other vehicle to return to Dhaka even after evening.
