Tarash Rajbari of Banmali Ray Bahadur, located in the heart of Pabna district city, is well known as the oldest and traditional palace of the region. In Kodla village of Bogra district, Vasudev, the ancestor of the Rai clan of Tarash, i.e. the Tarash family, was the largest zamindar in the district. Vasudev established Tarash Bhavan while serving in the revenue department of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan. Later, Vasudev Nawab Murshid Quli Khan was awarded the title of 'Ray Chowdhury'. Vasudeva's estate had about 200 mouzas.
Banmali Roy and Banwari Lal Roy founded the legendary Banmali Institute. During World War 2 the Zamindar family took refuge in Tarash Rajbari. The two storied Tarash Rajbari building is built on 2 circular pillars. In front of the palace there is an open courtyard and a huge entrance gate. The influence of the European Renaissance style can be seen in the construction of Tarsh Rajbari. The rectangular main building is 100 feet long and 60 feet wide. The two-storied portico on 4 Corinthian columns makes the building more attractive. Tarash Rajbari has been used as a government office at various times so this zamindar house is still in good condition. Many visitors from all over the country visit Tarash Rajbari, which is protected by Bangladesh Archeology Department.
