Introduction to Saint Martins

Saint Martin is the sole coral island in Bangladesh, situated at the southernmost tip of the country's mainland. Spanning 17 square kilometers, it is situated 120 kilometers from Cox's Bazar. Locally, Saint Martin is referred to as Coconut Gingera. This island ranks among the most stunning tourist spots in Bangladesh. The endless blue sky along with the blue waters of the sea, rows of coconut trees make this island unique, which draws the travel-hungry people to Durniba.

Ways to go to Saint Martin

Most ships to Saint Martin depart from Teknaf. To visit Saint Martin, it's convenient to travel to Teknaf in Cox's Bazar district. From Teknaf, you can reach Saint Martin by ship or trawler. If you're coming from Dhaka, it's easiest to take a bus directly to Teknaf and then a ship or trawler to Saint Martin. If Cox's Bazar is part of your travel plan, you can go from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar and then from Teknaf to Saint Martin. Alternatively, you can board the MV Karnaphuli Express Ship for a direct journey from Cox's Bazar to Saint Martin. Currently, the MV Bay One Ship operates from Chittagong to Saint Martin. Every method to reach Saint Martin is outlined below.

Ways to go from Dhaka to Teknaf

You can reach Teknaf directly by bus from Dhaka. Buses depart from Gabtali, Kalabagan, Fakirapool, Syedabad, and Abdullahpur in Dhaka, operated by companies such as Shyamli, St. Martin Paribahan, St. Martin Hyundai, Royal Coach, Tuba Line, S Alam, Modern Line, and Green Line. buses go directly to Teknaf. The fare usually ranges from Tk 1100 to Tk 2200 depending on the bus and class. If your sole destination is Saint Martin, the most convenient option is to take a direct bus from Dhaka to Teknaf. The bus leaves between 8-10 pm and reaches Teknaf by 8 am.

How to go to Teknaf via Cox's Bazar

To travel from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar, you can then proceed to Teknaf. Numerous buses, including Green Line, Sohag, TR Travels, Shyamoli, Hanif, Saudia, Eagle, S Alam, Silk Line, and St. Martin, depart daily from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar. The fare typically ranges from Tk 1200 to Tk 2500. To travel directly from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar by train, you can board the Cox's Bazar Express.  or the Tourist Express train leaving from either Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station.  . If you wish to travel from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar via Chittagong by train, you can choose from Sonar Bangla, Suborn Express, Turna-Nishitha, or Mahanagar Prabhati/Godhuli trains departing from either Kamalapur or Airport Railway Station, depending on your preference.You can travel to Cox's Bazar from Chittagong's New Bridge area, Alankar Mor, Cinema Palace, or Dampara Bus Stand using S Alam, Hanif, or Unique Paribahan buses. The fare ranges from Tk 420 to Tk 1000, depending on the bus. You can also go directly to Cox's Bazar by plane from Dhaka.
Cox's Bazar to Teknaf : From Cox's Bazar you can take local bus/micro/jeep/cng to Teknaf. The bus fare from Cox's Bazar to Teknaf is Tk 150, while the CNG fare is Tk 250 per person. The journey to Teknaf typically takes around two hours, depending on the road conditions. And if you want to catch the morning ship, you have to leave for Teknaf from Cox's Bazar early in the morning (by 6 am).

Ways to go from Chittagong to Teknaf

S Alam and Saudia buses depart from Chittagong Cinema Palace at midnight for Teknaf. Additionally, some buses operate from GSE Garibullashah Shrine and Dampara on the Chittagong-Teknaf route. It will cost Tk 580-1200 to go by bus from Chittagong to Teknaf.

How to get from Teknaf to Saint Martin

Usually several ships/ships depart from Teknaf to St. Martin daily from November to March. Vessels operating on the Teknaf-Saint Martin route include Carey Sindabad, Carey Cruise & Dine, MV Farhan, and Atlantic. The journey from Teknaf to Saint Martin by ship takes approximately two to two and a half hours.
Ticket prices for travel to and from St. Martin vary between Tk 850 and Tk 1600, depending on the ship's class and quality. Ships leave Teknaf JT wharf every day between 9:00 and 9:30 am for Saint Martin. Return from St. Martin at 3.00-3.30 pm. Tickets to Saint Martin are typically round-trip. Where to eat in Saint Martin

For fish enthusiasts, the island offers a variety of options including coral, sundari poa, hilsa, roopchanda, lobster, and kalachanda, each with its unique taste and preparation. Resorts and hotels can purchase and grill their own fish. Additionally, if the opportunity arises, you can enjoy kura. (native chicken is called kura). There are numerous varieties of lesser-known dried fish like laitta, churi, roopchanda, and kachki. Additionally, visiting during the summer allows you to enjoy the local watermelon.

Day-trippers from St. Martin may regret it later, so it's best to stay at least one day in St. Martin. Exploring the entire island ensures that this enjoyable trip will continually fascinate you.
Day Long Trip : Those who are short of time for a day long trip to St. Martin can get off the ship and take the van directly to West Beach or Main Beach without wasting time. The sunset at Chira Island is amazing but don't stay too long after sunset. In the evening, you can go back to the main island and hang out at the market jetty or you can have a music session anywhere on the west beach. Bar-B-Q at night can be done at the resort.
