'Panthumai' is the name of a beautiful village at the foothills of the Meghalaya Hills located in the Bangladesh-India border region. This village in West Jaflong Union of Goainghat Upazila of Sylhet is one of the most beautiful villages in Bangladesh. Located on the banks of the Meghalaya Hills and the Payain River, this village has another wonderful natural phenomenon, Panthumai Waterfall. Panthumai Jharna is known by different names to local people. Some call it 'Fatachari Jharna' and some call it 'Barahil Jharna', and in some eyes it is 'Mayavati'!

You will not be disappointed even if you just look at the aggressive water flowing down the rocks from the high mountains or the surrounding nature. Although the main location is in India, you can get very close to the fountain by renting a small dinghy boat for 100 taka. No matter where you are located in Bangladesh, you must first come to Sylhet district city in this trip. And you can go to Sylhet by bus, train and plane from Dhaka.

AC buses of Green Line, Shyamli, Saudia, S Alam and Ena Paribahan ply from Kalyanpur, Fakirapool, Syedabad in Dhaka. AC bus fare per person is 1400 to 1500 Tk. Apart from this , one has to spend 680 to 700 taka per person to go to Sylhet by non-AC bus of Shyamoli, Hanif, Unique and Ena Paribahan.

From Dhaka to Sylhet by train, you can choose Upaban, Jayantika, Parabat or Kalni Express train as your travel companion from Kamalapur or Airport railway station. It will take 6 to 7 hours to travel by train. Train fare will be 375 to 1288 taka depending on the class.

And you can travel by air from Dhaka to Sylhet in the fastest time. From Shahjalal International Airport, Biman Bangladesh, Novo Air and US Bangla Airlines flights depart for Sylhet daily. The ticket price per person is Tk 3,500 to Tk 10,000 depending on the class.

From Chittagong you can go to Sylhet by bus or train. If you want to go by train from Chittagong, two trains named Paharika and Udayan Express run 6 days a week. Train fare will be 450 to 1541 taka depending on the class.

From Sylhet's Ambarkhana CNG station, one has to take local CNG for 140 to 160 taka per person to come to Hadarpar. It will cost 1000 to 1500 taka to take CNG reserve for the whole day. Arrange a boat from Hadarpar boat jetty to visit Bishatkandi, Panthumai Jharna and Lakshmanchara together by negotiating with the boatman. Renting a boat can cost 800 to 1500 taka. Renting a big trawler can cost up to Rs 2,500 in some cases. In winter and at the beginning of monsoon, when the water in the river is low, one can go from Hadarpar to Bichnakandi on foot. Then motorbikes ply on this route at a fare of 50 to 60 taka.

Besides, there are many quality rest houses at low rent in Lala Bazar area and Darga Road Where you will get different types of rooms for 400 to 1000 taka.

There are some temporary food hotels in Bichnakandi. In those hotels, it will cost 120 to 150 taka to eat a curry and shutki bharta with unlimited rice and pulses. Besides, you can take some dry food, water etc with you if necessary. You can eat Gani Mia's Bhuna Khichuri in Hadarpar Bazar.
