Mary Anderson Floating Restaurant and Bar operated by Bangladesh Tourism Corporation on Buriganga River under Narayanganj Sadar. Initially, this floating restaurant was named State Yacht Mary Anderson. A 150-foot long steam engine powered ship was built in 1933 at Calcutta Shipyard for the use of the British Governors posted in Bengal. The ship is believed to have been named after Mary Anderson, daughter of the then Governor of Bengal, Sir John Anderson.
According to Tourism Corporation sources, in 1918 Queen Elizabeth of England visited Bangladesh on this ship and donated the ship to the government of this country in the name of her mother Queen Mary. Henceforth the governors of East Bengal used Mary Anderson. After 1971, Mary Anderson was reserved for the use of heads of state in Bangladesh. On September 24, 1978, the ship was launched as a floating restaurant under the management of the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation.
Air-conditioned rooms are now available for just 3000 rupees a night in the old British Pramod Tari. And if you want to take a room per hour, the rent will be 800 taka. Sitting in the middle of the river, dining at the Mary Anderson Restaurant offers visitors a unique experience.
